Curious how your Burb pulls?

I typically pull our 206 with my tuned ecoboost so maybe it's just a totally different world, but this past week we had some distance to drive so I chose the comfort of our Yukon XL and man it was a turd. It's been about a year since I pulled with it and I'm really trying to figure out if something is wrong with it. We were fully loaded, truck and boat, so maybe 6000 lbs worth of junk and bodies. I can't remember the gear ratio, but I know it's not set up to pull very often, but come on, 6000 lbs shouldn't keep me from reaching 75 mph on a flat highway.

Anyway, saw a new Expedition EL with the ecoboost and it is slick, that might be her next ride.

Mine pulls fine. It’s got the max tow pkg though whatever that is. It adjusts to whatever your towing. I don’t even feel my boat behind it. Granted I am coming from an Acadia so there’s that.

What does your boat and trailer weigh?

boat is 3K. Trailer probably 800? My kids are beanpoles too but my wife packs likes judgement day is coming though so a few thousand pounds there.

Bump to ask a question. I know its particular to the trailer but anyone got a range setting for brakes in these Suburban/Yukon/Esc for an RV around 6K lbs?

Taking the kids camping in the Adirondacks this weekend and have never set the trailer brakes on this thing for an RV... thoughts? 2.5?

The 6.2 in my 2015 GMC Denali pickup just towed my boat and trailer 750 miles round trip without breaking a sweat. This was fully loaded with 4 people and gear. We averaged over 12 MPG in mixed interstate and super narrow Missouri 2 lane county roads. The Chevy 6.2 is a beast and tows 10,000 lbs every bit as well as my old 6.0 Ford Diesel did.

Don't forget, the transmission plays a big part as well. The GM 8 speed trans feels like it's always in the "sweet spot" when pulling. The new 10 speed trans will be even better I'm sure.

Any thoughts on a brake setting in that weight range or do I just test it. Normally I'd cruise in a lot and find where they lock up and then back off from there but that's sort of my old antiquated method... don't know if this behavior is frowned upon nowadays.

I have surge brakes on my boat trailer so I"m not much help there. In the past with my big enclosed car trailers with electric brakes the method you described was exactly how we did it.

I would do it the same way Liquid, but I probably wouldn't dial them down until the tires skidded because it creates flat spots. But I would dial them down pretty tight... Just saying. That's the way I've done it with goosenecks, utility trailers, car haulers, stock trailers... You name it. Crank them down to where the trailer is doing most of your braking. I don't know if that's the "right way" but that's how I've always done it!
