Tusc - I agree. Never hit redline with either boat. I’m sure it’s possible but it sounds like you hit it with ease while I never have.

Tuscany, I have a spare set of f6's that you can borrow if you're willing to pay round trip shipping. The smaller one was slightly tweaked and then straightened, but they're decent.

Tuscany wrote: Sat Aug 04, 2018 1:49 pm Nowhere does it say 380 or 430 on the electronics. Just the sticker like Cycles. I have the f5, and I think the F6 would be the 430 prop, but I think it’s under propped with the 5. Constantly hitting red line with a full load.

I’d love to try a 6, but not for 1,500 bucks..

Tuscany - I have never redlined either. Here is not quite wound all the way up but close.

I can’t leave the throttle planted, otherwise the tach turns red like the low fuel indicator. Maybe it’s that clean western NY water..

Slide, I appreciate the offer, and thanks my friend. I hate to borrow things because you know, somehow I’ll find that rock.🤣
I think I already know what the outcome will be. Another 3-4 MPH, but the time to plane is simply ridiculous with the F5/6.2L, and in the end, that’s more important.

On the Garmin screens, I had to have the dealer change the defaults on mine a little bit because of the way it was set up. My tach was originally set to redline at 5,000rpm; so when I was cruising at 5500rpm, it looked like I was redline'd, but in reality I think redline is actually 5900 or 6000rpm. Is your tach set to redline at 6000rpm? He changed the defaults, and now I don't redline. (even though I wasn't before, now the tach isn't reading redline)

Weird, looking at the Volvo spec's the redline on the 6.2 is 6k. Wonder why Cobalt set the gauge at 5k.

Considering the aluminum block gen 5 6.2 uses.

Closed cooling and ez drain winterizer is a plus.

Hey, you can't really go wrong with either. I love the 6.2l power. It will out perform the 8.2, but it sounds like a wound up small block at cruising speeds.
I'm NOT a fan of the amount of RPM it uses. The sound is loud and the RPM is somewhat annoying.

Give me the same tech updates in a lower RPM big block, and I'm there, but not with today's Merc BB.
As we look for an R5, we have now driven the VP 300 and 380. You perfectly captured our engine conclusion. We want a lower revving (quieter) big block, with closed cooling and easy drain.

Sounds like your going with the merc 8.2 then. Fits your requirements. If he's watching there is a few or one on here that bought last year that got the 8.2.
