LED tape lights

Post by thunder550 »

The LED tape lights I put in last weekend are falling off already. Anyone have a recommendation for some tape lights that actually stick? I was planning on just doing white but I wouldn't be opposed to RGB either.

For what it is worth I found a similar issue when I put some tape LED lights on my patio at home. The adhesive stuck to the brick for about a day then fell down. I found some command clips by 3M for small lights and they have been great. My patio lights have been secure for well over a year now. The best part is they can be removed anytime without damaging my house brick.

You can find them online or at the store. Here they are from Bed Bath and Beyond. WalMart has them too.

In not sure what slideracer used. Did you clean the fiberglass first. Nothing sticks to it real good if you don't. Those led strips use cheap adhesive too. Just change it to some 3m thin stuff.
Its nice you find white white led light though.

The adhesive strips they typically use won’t stick in a boating environment. The Command Strips are a good idea or what about a flexible contact cement?

I cleaned the area with alcohol, then spread a very thin layer of adhesive on the back. Sticks like a champ.

I'm returning these ones to Amazon as a defect. Bought a different set that has the really good 3M tape on it. Cleaned surfaces with brake cleaner and rubbing alcohol and installed 12 new 1-foot strips this morning. Will update after a little bit of time passes, and hopefully get some night time pics in the near future. They felt really solid, and I've used that 3M stuff before, it's great.

It took you long enough. Should have been done yesterday.

I had the same problem. Went to home depot and bought some 3m Velcro strips, cut them into small squares and the have held tight all summer so far.

Sorry guys, just saw this thread. The LED strips I used were completely encased and then I used little aluminum clips to hold them in place. Here's an ebay link to lights that appear to be the same as what I used:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/120leds-m-RGB- ... KmrSetMRkU

Here's a pic that shows the aluminum clips. where I could, I actually screwed these into fiberglass. However, in some spots - like the bow - I had to glue these in place. I used E6000 and it seems to work well. I would apply a relatively generous amount, stick it where I wanted, and then slap a piece of painter's tape to hold it in place while the glue cured.
