I think the 210 is a great boat for what I do with it, but I already knew the R3 was a "perfect fit" when I saw it (and sat in it) last year at the boat show, as I was paying for my 210. I'd be happy with a leftover 2018 R3, but there are only a few in Canada and the dealers are hanging on to them and getting top dollar because the tariff adds about $12,000 USD to the cost of the 2019's. So, it means the older 2014 R3 (without the toys and warranty) or a new 2019 with a difference of about $75,000 CAD. I always have a hard time justifying the cost when the season is about 12 weekends. But, that is a different story.

I'm going to talk to the dealer at the show and see if he can take another 8% off the price of a new R3. the one he has is Ebony with a gray boot stripe, so not exactly my first colour choice. If he'll do a cost-plus deal on an order and give me what I paid for my boat (+/-) then I might make a move. Otherwise, I'm content to wait for another year. Hopefully, by then the US and Canada will have worked out the steel/aluminum import duty thing and the tariffs will come off.

As to the R5, I don't see a need for that size boat. The R3 would be my last boat. I'm 61, so I don't see a need to keep flipping boats every 3 years - not if I want to retire soon :)

Why wait for the show? I can't handle this get r done!! It could be gone by then. I'm sure the ice is already melted and you will be on the water in a week. Or at least before sailor will be.

Yeah as BBP said get the deal done now if there is one to be made. I worked the deal on my R7 weeks before the STL, KC, and Springfield shows and glad I did. I can tell you the price I was able to work out was far less than the advertised prices at the shows. And you can look at the boat in peace instead of having 30 other people standing on the boat while you are trying to check everything out.

I just found a new leftover 2018 R3 at a dealer outside of my province, so my dealer would have to get it shipped in and sell it to me (dealers don’t seem to want to sell out of their territory). It is a white hull with black stripe and standard sound, but it has a VP 380 DP and some other options. I think I’ll se what that boat will price at. BB, is the 380 big enough? :)

If I bought a 430, I'm betting I'd be one of the few who had an R3 equipped that way. I think it will get up on plane in under 3 seconds with a 380 with a top speed around 50 mph. But, I have to commit to the purchase first, then I can decide on the HP. :)

My choice would be a VP350 or 380. A boat test from 2015 showed 51.5 mph and zero to 30 in under 4 seconds. The 380 would add a couple of mph top end and I think either of those engines would be more than enough for me.

380 in an R3 would be a blast! That is probably the route I would go. BBP wants you to get the merc 8.2ho with captains call. Just make sure it’s a dreamsicle 😜
