Re: LED tape lights
When I did my old boat I had the same issue with the pathetic adhesive on the lights. I used 1/4” wide 3M body trim tape. Has held solid for 4 years, but comes off easily with a heat gun if you want to remove it. It’s what I’ll be using when I get to doing the cobalt.

Re: LED tape lights
I have stumbled upon this thread as I was considering adding the lights to my courtesy light switch. I was talking with the tech guys here at work and they told me that they have found that rubber cement works the best for getting these to stick. You aren't having to put extra holes in the boat, it fills in cracks and if you ever have to replace it, the rubber cement can be easy to remove. I think I will practice with under cabinet lighting in the kitchen first!

Re: LED tape lights
Thank you, I have been following for a while. I finally felt like I could contribute! I fell in love with Cobalt boats the first time I saw them, 10 years ago on Lake Washington (Seattle area) while cruising around in my 19 foot Maxum bowrider. Drooling, I told my wife, wouldn't it be nice, but no way are we Cobalt people. Last summer I bought my first Cobalt and smiled from ear to ear the 5 hour drive to Spokane and back to pick it up. Happy to say I am finally a Cobalt type person! I am starting to realize that Cobalt type people are regular folks just like me who prefer quality, night and day difference from the Maxum.
We purchased a 2008 220 300hp VP/DP white with red boot stripe last summer that had been babied. The first owner kept it in his garage at his second home (lake house) and the second owner kept it in his garage at his second home (lake house) so it only had 160 hours on it. So now I am drooling for a different reason, to get it out on the water again!
I know you are going to ask for a pic and I am embarrassed I don't have a good one yet, I was too busy having fun with it. I will remedy that this summer. Thank you for reaching out!

The 3m adhesion promoter works incredibly well, wouldn't put a strip up without it!

Re: LED tape lights
What are you looking for? Single color, white, RGB or RGBW? Best advice is to avoid the cheap junk on Amazon

Re: LED tape lights
Just looking for some white light, something I can cut to lengths for lighting around the recessed areas on the boat. Like your comment, I don't want to buy some junk. I would like to know recomendations for types (5050 or ?) that is a good spec for this application.BigGib wrote: Fri May 10, 2019 9:56 pm What are you looking for? Single color, white, RGB or RGBW? Re: LED tape lights
Chip type is really just the size of the LED chip. 5050 is pretty much the standard these days, as 3528's we're a few years ago, but I would recommend 2835 or 2216 as they are newer and higher efficacy (lumens/watt). How bright are you looking to go? If they are all wired together I would recommend going brighter and getting a dimmer. I work for Superbrightleds but I'm not sure how that works on here with linking to products. I'm not here to sell lights, just help fellow Cobalt enthusiasts out! Either way, just make sure you buy from a reputable retailer and you will get a quality product!pcarp wrote: Sat May 11, 2019 1:00 pmJust looking for some white light, something I can cut to lengths for lighting around the recessed areas on the boat. Re: LED tape lights
+1 on the SuperbrightLEDs, used them on my last boat, I'll link them because I had success with them. https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinf ... 5050/1710/
Just make sure whatever brand you get they are IP67 or higher.
