ajcampen wrote: Thu Mar 21, 2019 11:56 am I should of responded way back when but i didn't like to talk about my weight back then. I let my weight get up there over the past several years. I decided late last year to make some changes after watching a couple friends on facebook get great results. One friend started a keto diet and between august and dec went from 260 to 200 lbs. Very inspirational to me personally.

I am happy to report that after starting my keto diet on Jan 5th i am down to 229 lbs today after 11 weeks. I haven't been here in more than a decade. I started this journey with a goal of loosing 50 lbs and I am 4 lbs away from meeting that). After a couple weeks on the diet, i decided to revise my goal to 200lbs. with a long term plan of staying under 190.

I feel so much better. My cloths started fitting well and now they are starting to not fit well again b/c they are too big. My first purchase soon will be a new belt because the one that I started with (i was on the widest slot) is only going to last just a couple weeks longer as I am now on the smallest slot.

Yes resolutions suck and I didn't start this lifestyle change as a resolution, more a I wanted to have a better quality of life again. I wanted to water ski again. I wanted to enjoy seeing myself in photos, etc. just wanted to share with my CC friends.
Congrats on the weight loss and life style change AJ! How do you like doing the Keto diet?

I've had a life style change as well. I let 2018 get the best of me and let life get to busy and I gained about 20lbs over the summer. On the monday after labor day I was 218lbs. I have just been exercising more and I have been doing intermitted fasting (I fast from 8pm-noon the next day) and I am down to 190lbs. I'd love to lose about 10 more to get back down to the weight I was about 5 years ago.

That is excellent news TG! Great news with where you are. I hope to be where you are in a couple months. Keto is different and I hope it is not the type of eating i have to do for the rest of my life, but if I must then I must. I miss pizza, pasta, fruit, beer...but I also noticed how often and the volume of food I was consuming.

I have not done intermittent fasting much yet but I get it. At this point, I am losing 3ish lbs a week and really havent stalled out...do I havent had to go there. That being said, i usually skip breakfast (except for my coffee with MCT oil and half and half) on the weekends. But we will have to chat off line. Love to learn more of what you are doing.

Nothing is better than feeling good, looking good and doing what you want to do. I feel that my current keto diet is letting me get their (except for the carb part). Plus my wife doesnt live with the fear of me dying young.

I was 180 lbs until i was a jr in college. So i want to get back to the athletic self i used to be. I want to start playing basketball, etc again. A big thing was that I want to do is wakeboard (have never but bought one last year) / ski (I couldn't anymore last 2 summer).

My next purchase is going to be bow flex dumbbells and start lifting in the basement.

Below is a last summer pic and a today pic

Good for you AJ! Keep at it!

I started a Keto lifestyle a year ago October and initially dropped 43 pounds. Now I'm maintaining at 35. I dont count anything (never have, never will) and pretty much eat as much as I want as long as it's no sugar and very low (or beneficial) carbs.

I used to miss things like fried chicken and pizza until I discovered how to make both in keto. Man, someone could make a mint opening a keto friendly restaurant!

I wow guys, congrats.
Weight has always been an issue for me.
My weight resembles an elevator. Up and down, but mostly a very discouraging up. It's to the point where I don't even want to go to the store before noon.
Too many good things being prepped. Then of course are the constant food samples being dropped off. I'm considering moving to Darfur and trying a grain of rice per day diet.
As time goes on, the knees just can't take it anymore.😫

So, how did you guys start on Keto, and what links for meals can you suggest? Ridding sugar/carbs are probably my biggest hurdle.. I really struggle with this and wish I could drop 50. I've done it before with cardio, but it's so hard to maintain as you get older.
Thanks.

T I am going to message you my number. Call me and I can give you the download. If you commit for 30 days you’ll be hooked. The weight just falls of b/c your body stops running on carbs and switches to frunning on fat. Also stop cooking with vanilla oil and switch to coconut or avocado. Very hard for body to process.

Keto here. I dropped 35 pounds in a few months prior to Thanksgiving. My goal is additional 35 pounds to get down to my old fighting weight. Took a break during the holidays. Only gained back 5 pounds or so. Back on the wagon now to lose the additional weight. I feel much better on the Keto diet, and it seems as it lessens my joint pain.

My 6 month checkup showed all good numbers. Bad cholesterol down, good cholesterol up, A1C and fasting glucose from borderline diabetic to on the high end of normal.

Very pleased.

Ok guys. I come from a large family. My dad was a svelt 325..😱.
I was 286 a few years ago until I started at the gym. I quickly lost 40 lbs, but started to suffer injuries from weights. Torn Labrum surgery and back problems from stenosis to the point of recommended surgery which I will never do. . So, weights that load the back are now out.. Ive never been physically injured before, and my joints seem to somehow falling apart, especially my knees. I’m sure the hard physical labor from my life are now showing up in worn out joints. Since I can’t work nearly as hard and another 8 years older, it’s getting tough to maintain. 250-255 now. I’m also living my idea of a dream life right now, which means I’m not physically working at the store like I used to, and Wendy and I are on a trip somewhere a lot, which means eating out at nice places...a lot. I’m not a drinker at all, so no alcohol issues to explain away my forgetfulness..🤣

I am an early morning cereal lover for breakfast. I thought I was eating right by sticking with Kashi/almond milk or Steel cut oats and fruit. I’ve been doing this for years, and obviously there is a problem. I also find myself starving by 10:30...like ready to eat a horse.. I am trying coffee only and have been skipping breakfast completely, finding myself not hungry at all until lunch time. I’m going to start by eliminating cereals all together.

AJ there are tons of recipes online for all kinds of things. Once you get into it, there really isn't anything to miss out on.

Tusc, if you commit you'll be hooked. The big thing is breads and sugar. It has to go, and it is hard, but you have to get that out of your head. Eat only beneficial carbs, like leafy veggies. And 80% fat, because once your body converts into ketosis, your burning fat for energy instead of glucose. If a person is diabetic or boarder line, it's the best thing you can do. Cereal and grains? Get rid of it.

I was on it for a year before my wife decided to. I have a pretty high amount of will power, but she doesn't. Sooo, we emptied the house of all crap. Gave it away or threw it out. Shes down 30 pounds now.

Another thing Tusc... If you could offer up some keto friendly meals at your store? I think a keto restaurant would make a ton of money! As forward thinking as you are, I challenge you to offer a keto selection of meals, and test it.

Also, look up a documentary called "The Magic Pill". It's about a doctor in Australia that was prescribing this diet to his patients. The Australian medical board thought he was crazy and sued him to remove his medical license. It was a 3 year trial, and he showed factual data, research and stats, He explains how it works, and showed how many hundreds of people he has helped in HUGE ways, including whole tribe of Aborigines, entire family's, individuals, and a young autistic girl that was very high on the spectrum. Before keto she could not speak or feed herself, and was doing both afterwards. He was acquitted and is still practicing medicine today.

A good friend of mine lost 120 pounds last summer, then went back to his old ways. He quickly gained 40 of it back, and is now committed to the keto lifestyle, and its coming back off again. Another buddy saw my results, and he has lost 60 pounds in 6 months. Now he maintains it.

My advice would be...Don't get all caught up in the "hype". I never limit my intake, and never count a thing. I never pay attention to anyone's keto pills, potions, mixed, plans, blablabla. I just eat meat, lots of fat in many forms, only beneficial carbs, and NO sugar of any kind...and low carb beer.

This is a deal killer for a lot of folks. Michelob and Coronas have low carb beers, but anything else will cancel out ketosis. So if you can't give that up, keep drinking and keep packing on the pounds.

If anyone is interested shoot me a note and I'll try to help get you on the right track.

Thanks YT. I’m definitely not a drinker, except for a Lemon drop from time to time, thanks to Matt.. 🤬
Really though, I hate beer and general alcohol.
My issues are constantly being in a food store, and loving all of the sweet stuff, which I can see is the root of my constant hunger. I am like Mrs. YT, I have literally zero willpower when garbage food is in the house, but we’ve done a good job on not having junk food in the house...it’s at the deli..🙈

If I could lose 60 lbs, I would feel like I hit the Powerball.. knees are killing me, and I generally feel like crap. Even at the height of my strength a couple years ago, I never really felt great.
I’m going to talk to AJ later and give this a shot. If I can control hunger by eliminating sugar and simple carbs, I have to think this will be much easier to follow. I had a good day yesterday by eliminating cereal, and the hunger wasn’t there, we’ll see about today.
