Yep, some polyurethane on the box at a minimum will help keep it from falling to pieces the first time it gets wet.

I'm actually looking at/thinking about a box from Crustchfield for about $59.

Sorry don't waste your money. But a jl sub and cut a hole and buy a amp.
I hated losing the storage space there so I never used my kicker sub and just sold it.

Last year, all I kept in that storage area (where the amps and sub are now) were life jackets. I think I am going to put the jackets somewhere else, and in there, I'll put some of the things we use much less (bumpers, air pump, some rag towels, etc). Basically, I am not going to put things in there that get wet. I won't put anchors, that could puncture the woofer, in there for example.

I am still working that out. I haven't decided on that box yet, either. I'm just considering it. I didn't think $59 seemed that outrageous.

Another $50 bucks and you can buy this. I don't know the JL line. But heck.
I could be way off base and Jeff will let me know if I am. Your going to do it right next year any ways so just do it 1 time.

Little off base - those are not the marine rated JL Subs. JL makes two 10in Marine Subs the M10IB5 and the MX10IB3.

The MX series has a MRSP of $260 the M series is $330. The M has a lot better power handling, but its a big sub. I would go M if you can make it fit, just know its almost 6in deep (that's what she said). Took awhile to makes ours fit, but I can finally show it off:

I like it!!

I don't think we're there yet, though. I'll see what happens with this MB Quart in the box it's in. Maybe I'll build a newer, nicer one (that might be fun :). I'd probably only have about a 75 post thread for that lol!!!

Looks awesome Driller. I still need to mess /w ours a bit - what do you have the crossover set at for yours? I just put ours at 80hz to get us going, but may raise that a bit in the future.

Oh and I misspoke earlier - JL now makes 3 10in Marine Subs - forgot about the new M6-10IB-S.

X2 on what Nauti said, Driller!! Do you have a spacer between your sub and the compartment on the front side? Did you put it in yourself?

It is an LED ring. There was plenty of room to mount it flush. I had it done at a shop here in Austin.

Very nice D !!! I think if we used our boat at night more than a couple of times a year, I'd get into that a little bit! Can one buy that light package as an after market purchase? You can change those colors up with a touch of a button right? Are they on a dimmer switch too?

Last year at the Fontana fireworks, I noticed a few boats with the LED's out the back under the swim platform ... I kind of liked that too!

You can Control it all with your phone with blue tooth. Yes you can add led any way you want to. But it's running wires again.

I have both the underwater lights and the interior lights. All operate from a controller and can be synced all the same color or pick different colors for each. Each zone can be individually dimmed. I have 4 zones of lighting on the boat all added after market last year when I upgraded the stereo. I went with the Shadow Caster underwater lights and have been happy with them.

You can see the controller to right of the stereo control. The controller is a Wet Sounds controller and can be found here:

https://www.wetsounds.com/WS-4Z-RGB-Controller

I'm not super pleased with the mounting location, but it was the only place I could find where it was handy and would fit.

My installer did not recommend the Phone Controlled bluetooth controllers so I went with the hard wired version. I know a lot of the guys here used the bluetooth controller and have no issues.

Slightly off topic, I just picked up an Anker Roav to replace my old (cheapo) hard wired bluetooth iPhone transmitter. It works really well for music (I haven't tried using it for a call though, and probably won't). It provides battery status and fast phone or tablet charging too. One of the keys with these is to be sure that the radio "station" that you choose doesn't overlap at all with any others in your area. It was pretty nice to get rid of the snarl of cables in my glove box from the old hard wired transmitter, as I was starting to be concerned that someone (like me) might accidentally break off the plug into the aux port.

I'm hoping that this thing will help me to resist the urge to do a wholesale stereo upgrade for a while, or at least a season...although I'm temped to replace the stock speakers with something better, or add a sub, in the mean time.
