Navionics App

Post by Driller »

Anyone using this app? My 242 doesn't have a convenient location to mount a chart plotter. I really only need it at night when I am running a very slow speed and would like to confirm my location.

Looks like it will work well, but I haven't put it to the test yet. Downloaded, but looks like I won't get the chance to try before my trial period expires.

This one? I have it and I wouldn't trust it getting me around the block. I know others that love it. Do you have unlimited data it likes data.

The Navionics "Lakes East" version works fantastic for us when we go across Lake Erie to Canada.

Don't use it at all except for that.

Yep, for all practical purposes I have unlimited data. So, we have one maybe and one it works, not the most resounding endorsements.

Lake Travis is long, but narrow. It's basically the Colorado River dammed up. Deep, but not too wide. Just want to stay in the channel or close to it at night. I have line of sight and markers most of the way, but every once in a while it is easy to lose bearings. Thought this app might help and allow me to broaden my range a little during the evening hours.

This heat is killing my wife, and her favorite time to go out is sunset and night.

I with ya Driller. We like it at night too and our lake snakes back and forth. It's easy to see think the far bank is close by and you're surrounded by bank if you don't know where the turn is!

I have a lake chartplotter chip in my GPS from Garmin that shows the channel in our lake. It's easy to stay in it after the sun goes down. It came with my boat, but I think you just order it from Garmin and plug it In? Of course, I don't have the fancypants system y'all boys do. 😁 I have an ooold boat.

BB and Liquid still navigate by the stars, I'm sure.

Got in under the wire and tried the app last couple of nights. Other than a few minor annoyances I'm happy with it. Broadened my range a lot. Saved my bacon when we went to dinner in a cove I wasn't used to and ended up staying past dark.

Again, Navionics has never let me down going to Canada and back.

But navigating and predicting the shallows of a lake or bay, I'm not sure how she performs. Let us know. The predictive/almost reactive nature of a good depth sounder has its limitations. Those props can be expensive.
