Torpedo transducer mounting location?

There is already a smaller hole for the water temp gauge in the dash, at least on mine, so I'm just going to open that up to 1" and run both wires through the hull fitting I bought. I feel slightly better about making an existing factory hole bigger than drilling a new one.

I would use the same hole also. To bad they don't make it so the ends are off then you could put the end on it once it's through the hull. I chatted with simrad today and they are definitely fishing minded.

Did you ask them about mounting the transducer in the bilge? I'm not interested in having one off the back of the boat and I don't want to pay the green backs for the thru hull. If would work and give me depth I would be happy. I already get depth on my original equipment, so right now I don't have one hooked up to my GO5.

Correct but who are they?

You could customize the cubby hole, but by my measurements the dash hole will be very close to being too small. Changing out the whole dash is not an option for me.

For what it's worth, I stuck mine down in the center of the bilge with blue tack, the sticky clay stuff that you can get at a hardware store, to act as a thru-hull of sorts. It loses the bottom at cruising speed (30-35 mph) if the depth is over 60-70 ft, but it works great up to 120 ft when anchored or idling around in coves (which was my main intent when installing it). It's been mounted this way and working well for almost a year now and it even detects fish size and depth pretty well.

Hi Jason,

I don't, but I can get one the next time I'm at the slip. It's stuck down slightly port of the center, right behind the firewall. I ran the transducer cable across the bilge and threaded it up under the gunwale, then back out and across the helm to the chartplotter mounted over the steering wheel, like this (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1983&p=55337#p55337). The chartplotter power is connected to the 12 volt starboard dash plug (I shortened the cable and soldered a right-angle switched plug on it). All in all, it's a good configuration for my 210.

That would be great. I have the Simrad 7 mounted just to the left of steering wheel. I have their transducer and I was like no way in hell am I drilling a hole large enough to put the plug through in the transom area. I had toyed with the idea of cutting the wire and slipping it through one of the drain holes in the back then snake it up to the helm then slice the wires back together. However, I like the through the hull idea.
