I wasn't raised with a dog. For some reason, cats were OK in my household, but my dad forbid me to get a dog.
I actually had the cutest Irish Setter pup given to me at 16, and my dad told me to get rid of it.. No wonder why he was such a grump!
My first dog was when my daughter was about four. When my wife told me that a friend of ours stopped by the store with a car full of Golden pups, and how cute they were. It was me who really didn't want to deal with something I knew nothing about, especially with four of us in a 1,200 square foot two family house at the time..
My wife twisted my arm and we did it. Who did our dog gravitate to? Me..
I took that guy everywhere with me. He hung out at work, went on deliveries with me, loved rides in my truck, and became my 90 lb. lap dog. I learned a lot about kindness, and how to just laugh it off from that guy...
That dog sure liked to run though, and cost me a bundle in court charges from getting away from us. One time we got a call from a teacher, and found him in a classroom at the local school, sitting in the middle of the floor surrounded by the 1st grade kids playing with him.. She said "no hurry'..
Oh, me and the judge go WAAAY back..
