Re: My 262 Build
Ok, on my 2004, the steering arm cover has its own gasket and is a pretty easy thing to replace. Normally, though, that's above the water line when just floating. Is that not the case with yours?

I am not sure, I am going to have to test and see. The insurance adjuster thinks that it is. I can tell you by the amount of water coming in that something was below the water line!

Can you take a picture(s) of the top of the outdrive from outside the boat? That's a lot of water to be coming in even if the gasket had failed.

Re: My 262 Build
I might be able to get a pic over the weekend. The boat is no longer in my possession. She is at the repair shop. They are trying to tell me that the only water they can find is from a couple of bolts and it is just a trickle. The adjuster thought it might be from the plug not being tight which OBVIOUSLY from the video, that is not true.slideruleracer wrote: Thu May 23, 2019 4:54 pm Can you take a picture(s) of the top of the outdrive from outside the boat? Re: My 262 Build
Yea that's a new option is a drain plug up by The steering arm. #3 area and #13
But yes something is cracked right there. That drive needs to come off.

Hard to tell from the video, but the amount of water and general area aligns with damage to the raw water pump inlet from the outdrive. Agree, it need to come off to know what’s going on.

Re: My 262 Build
AK,
If you watch my transom assy rebuild video:
You can see that the shifter arm area is well separated from the inlet hose intake port. So, based on the last video with water coming in through the shifter arm pocket, I would say it's unlikely the intake hose.

Re: My 262 Build
loved the videos.. thanks for that. She is in the repair shop and I am hoping she is fixed this week. Repair shop still insists he believes that I left the plug out. This is 100% not true and in fact others at the boat ramp were there to witness the boat being pulled out and plug still in. Soooo.. when he finishes her up, it should be an interesting first trip out on the water.

Good video there slide, subscribed. Learned a bit more about the differences of VP and Merc.
Be interested where the water is coming from.

Re: My 262 Build
Thanks.. I should point out that 'shifter arm' should have read 'steering arm'. I'm going to blame autocorrect. Sorry for any confusion.

Re: My 262 Build
as I understand it, the steering arm sits well above the waterline and should not be an issue under normal circumstances. This means something happened for it to take on water. I am now worried that my mechanic had something to do with the issue from when he replaced my started the week before. Just really no way to prove it now or determine for sure. Those tracks would have long been covered up. Anyway, hoping to get it back this weekend or next week and I will put it in the water and do a full test myself.
My thoughts are now that something was leaking from the cooling system and pumping water into the boat while it was running. It took on more water while stopped because the weight from the water taken on while running had set it low enough in the water for it to come in around the steering arm also. I expect one of two things: I will pick it up and put it in the water and when I run it, we will be able to tell where the issue is at or it will run fine, which would indicate to me that someone covered something up.

Re: My 262 Build
I say. He could have bumped a hose and it cracked the brittle plastic fitting and you now have water coming in from it. Or if nothing is by the starter or just happened to be the luck of the draw.

Cross your fingers. I got the call that I could pick her up and take her out this weekend. She isn’t finished but would be in running order. They are having trouble sourcing the fire extinguisher system. Hoping all goes well.

Re: My 262 Build
Finally got her in the water this past week. It is not finished but it was sea worthy for the week. Have an issue with the hydraulic system where if you raise the hatch, it lowers the trim tab. My mechanic has a call in to the vendor to see what is causing that. Also he has the automatic fire system to get back on the boat. Other than those things, it was good to spend a week boating this past week. looking forward to finishing the season right.
Any of you have seadek installed on your 262? Wondering if someone already had a template out there for the boat.

Aquamarine has a template for the 262. I bought the template for my swim platform and walk thru on my old 262.
