2013 Volvo DPS-B Lower Unit Tilt Question

I have this unit attached to my 2013 Cobalt 242 with Volvo 380. It just started making a noise when lowering the lower unit while in motion. It’s a noise you can hear and feel through the hull. Any ideas on where to start looking would be appreciated. I don’t see any obvious signs of a leak, etc. in the bilge area or the lower unit.

So was this while you were cruising at what speed and how far did you lower the drive. Just to make sure did you check the fluid level with the driver down. How was that.

It was underway. Drive went all the way down. I will try to figure out how to check level. I understand it is a closed unit.

Yes if your underway and the drive is down it will vibrate the boat.

It was trimmed up a bit while moving on the lake, it is when I was lowering it is when it would make all the racket.

I got around to taking a closer look at it today and found 4 of the 6 bolts were loose and needing to be tightened. I snugged them down very carefully. I also found out the o-ring on the refill plug is broken. Does anyone have the size of this o-ring? I have spent an hour looking online. I have found a few schematics, but none had dimensions or part numbers for the o-ring. The fluid level of down a little but milky white and needing to be replaced with good fluid.

My lower unit was making horrible noises when I would lower it under way. I also noticed a possible “oil slick” out the back. Today, I had it on the lift and was able to determine Fluid leaking out of the reservoir cover. 4 of the 6 bolts were loose so I tightened them up. I also noticed the o-ring on the filler plug screw was broken in half and needs to be replaced. The fluid level of ok, but it has water in it and is milky colored. I need to drain and replace with new power steering fluid. Does anyone know the o-ring size? I have looked online for an hour, but no positive outcome. I have found schematics with it mentioned, but no sizes or part number specific to it.

I would bring the cap to the auto parts or hardware store. They will have one that will fit. Or by the cap it prob comes with a new cap. Or is it on the reservoir? The milky fluid is a sign of water contamination. Volvo has a issue with the valve and fittings by the drive where the lines go from the rams to the gimble housing. Take a look. But yes flush that all out of there. Check the rams as well.

I have looked for a new cap assembly as well but no luck. I put the cap back in so water wouldn’t get in but I have the o-ring and will take it to a local store to try and match up.
