262 vs 282 Which would you chose
262 vs 282 Which would you chose
Hello All new to the site and looking for some info from others that are in the know. Selling my 07 220 and moving up, looking at the 262 or the 282 can't make up my mind. I know it's only 2' but I do like the fact I can get twins in the 282. Don't know if twins are necessary as long as I stay with the 496 mag or the 8.1 Volvo in either. Where does the extra 2' come in? Is it in the sink and extra storage? What would I gain in the 2' I haven't actually been in either as of yet and will when I get closer to buying. Just wanted to here from the experts that have driven them and know more than I.
Thanks

Hey welcome to the Cobalt chat forum C64. So glad you found us!
You can’t go wrong with either.. 26’ is my limit for single engine. Above that size I prefer twins mainly for docking in crosswinds.
If water sports is more your thing, go 260 series hull. If more into cruising, 282 is better with the higher freeboard.
Again, welcome aboard mate!

I was going either a big power 262 or twin 282. Coming from poorly thought offshore style boats I wanted comfort in lounging. Match that with the U seating in the rear on both models and you’ve got a chat area for 6 and no knees touching!
Of course the 282 shares the same 22 degree deadrise as the 262. But it’s also 6” wider and 10.” More free board ( taller ).
So if you land either you’re going to have a performance hull with great comfort.
I’ve never driven the 282 with a single as a few members here have them and are very happy with them.
My 282?.... I crush quarter wakes coming at me from wake and surf boats with ease. Yes she’s 8200 lbs
So what have we learned? 262 is the perfect single engine.... easy to tow.. best price pointed used Cobalt for her size. The 282 gives you more confidence in ugly water with increased interior room and twin engines ( one can always get you home)
Get ready to shop once you land on what works best for your family and area of boating!

oh, great point about the beam Matt. Yes, 262 is the largest legal size to tow without permits in most states. 8’6”.
If you don’t care about towing and want to cruise, go big boy 282 with twins baby!
(and yes, you will LOVE the wrap around seating)

Well I ended up with the 262 with the 8.1 Volvo but I think I need to up grade my tow rig now. LOL it is squatting the 150 a little. Thanks for all the advise I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get used to the new ride.

Allllllright! Welcome to the 260 series club C64.
Stainless wakeboard arch AND extra extended swim platform.
Does it have the 420 HP GXI motor with Captains Call?
It’s hard to beat the deep vee hull ride, hole shot, top speed, maneuverability, versatility,, trailerability, yacht certification, storage capacity, extended swim platforms, and looks of a fully loaded 262 with the stainless wakeboard arch. It’s one of the best to come out of the world headquarters in Neodesha .
Plus the center walk thru transom allows for true horseshoe style seating which allows for maximum riders while also keeping the load balanced....especially helpful in a deep vee hull.
The major downsides:
1) This 260 series is out of warranty.
2) Since she’s over 7 years old certain parts (mainly cushions) can be difficult to come by.
3) It doesn’t have the latest LCD technology at the helm.
Other than that, it’s the total package all wrapped up in one. Heck of a machine.
Looking forward to your questions ...and of course your pics.

Re: 262 vs 282 Which would you chose
Yes it does have the GXi and captains call and as you mentioned the extended swim platform also has trim tabs and full front and rear cushions the trip axles was a nice bonus as well. Near as I can tell there was no expense spared when it was ordered new.AsLan7 wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2019 9:28 pm.Cruiser64 wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2019 9:20 pm Well I ended up with the 262 with the 8.1 Volvo but I think I need to up grade my tow rig now. No heat that i'm aware of as of yet. Does have the stainless windshield and transom trim and stereo remotes but sadly no transom shower.AsLan7 wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2019 9:49 pm.Cruiser64 wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2019 9:46 pmYes it does have the GXi and captains call and as you mentioned the extended swim platform also has trim tabs and full front and rear cushions the trip axles was a nice bonus as well. Still... that my friend is a 260 series unicorn. Nice job finding her.
The transom shower can be added without much trouble. Cockpit heater is a little more difficult but still doable if you ever wanted it.
Please post more pics of this machine. Priced out new, they stickered north of $150k...which is why they are unicorns. BTW, what year? They only made these 260 series hull and center walk thru topside configurations with the stainless wakeboard arch between 2004ish (possibly late '03) to 2007.
Again, great job C64.
