Thinking of a new tow vehicle.

Well, I see its a close vote.
My wife and son agree with the SRW shorty.
I've always liked the long boxes, but it does need the DRW fenders on there to make it look right.

I'm keeping the GMC, so this truck won't see winter. I've had very good success with low mileage winter free truck resale..

I would also keep in mind an Expedition. That eco v-6 turbo pulls that truck along a lot better than the 5.3L, which IMO is a little underpowered for a heavy SUV. We rented one while on vacation and I was truly shocked how well it ran. Almost right there with the gen 5 6.2L.
Take one for a test drive.

We have a 2018 Expedition with the 3.5 Ecoboost. So far we are really impressed with it. I haven’t towed anything heavy with it yet but it has plenty of power and the gas mileage is 18 in the city and 22 on the highway. We had a 2007 Expedition years ago, there’s a big difference between the two. Maybe someday I will find time to set up the trailer backing system and see if I can back a trailer just by turning a Knob.

I'd take recommendations for a new to me tow vehicle.

Doesn't have to be pretty, as it will be my winter beater and occasional boat hauler only. So very used would be fine. Don't need to worry about mountain passes, pretty much highway roads to Maine and CT and the ME boat ramps (some of which, I understand, can be a bit steep). Boat loaded is probs 8k lbs. I'd probs need 4WD for the occasional ramp and would prefer a 4 door truck or smallish SUV. Like to stay under 10k if I can.

Will be selling my 2001 BMW 325iT (aka wagon) Sport Manual to 'upgrade' to this.

Open to suggestions. Thx T2

I would MUCH rather have the 3.5L Turbo than the 6.2L. More torque, better torque curve, and way better mileage.

So I have been thinking about getting a truck next year and right now my eye is on the new 10 speed 6.2 gmc with the max tow package. It is rated for 12,200lbs so it would more than pull my R7. I doubt I would pull it around often. But the option would be nice to have.

I know a diesel would be the better on fuel economy but I don't think I need it if I would be towing at most once a season.

Older used 2/3 Ton seems to fit the bill. I would stay away from the older 1/2 Tons as they were limited on power until the more recent generations, but those are going to be way over budget.

Thanks AsLan and Nauti, will look into those...particularly since my hauler for my vacation starting next Saturday wants me to pay for permits (even tho the width was clearly stated in my US^^p listing. Grr.

Well I brought home my new tow vehicle the wife's daily driver. 2019 Dodge Durango RT. AWD.
Cant wait to haul with it. But that's going to be a ways off. Prob August. Lots going on this month. This thing is a hoot to drive.
