The 6.0L engine is a VVT engine, which from everything I read this winter needs the oil to be within spec to operate the variable timing system properly. Is 115 hrs enough to cause a problem with the oil? I can't say for sure what caused it, but I'd place my bet on lack of oil changes. I'm glad it is taken care of cause i had started to look at trading it.jhnmdahl wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:11 pm I wonder what oil would have been causing the issue? I've been using Mobil 1 15W-50 in my 5.7L Volvo, and it does just fine.

I'm a fan of BG EPR system. This would get in and clean out any oil gumming up issues. Then add protection after that. Yes you have to run the correct oil in these engines or you will have issues. Our cars will turn on a check engine light and go into reduced power mode because the wrong oil was used.

Re: Water test questions
That makes sense. I know my old BMW had needed the Viscosity, cSt at 100 degrees Celsius to be in some narrow range (between 11 and 13 or so?) and wouldn't run as well if it was a bit too thick or too thin. To make it tricky, there are 30 weight and 40 weight oils that are in that range, but most 30 weight are too thin and most 40 weight are too heavy.willyswagon wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2019 8:32 pmThe 6.0L engine is a VVT engine, which from everything I read this winter needs the oil to be within spec to operate the variable timing system properly. Re: Water test questions
The best part of the whole ordeal was that my buddies that sold it to me stood behind the sale the whole time. They said if I couldn't get to the bottom of it they'd take it on trade against anything they had in stock, and give me what I paid for it on trade a yr ago. I said that was more than fair, but I didn't really want to 'Trade Down" to a Sea Ray.
