GPS For my 232

Post by Dnobes »

Hoping someone can recommend a GPS that will fit on the dash of my 2011, 232. Looks like I can only go with a 5” screen and ram mount it on the left side of the dash? No room on the right. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a photo of where I mounted the SMIRAD G05 and later the GO7 in my 2011 242.

Looks good! How is the viewing angle and can you see it while standing? I found a ball mount that fits a small rail and will attach to the windshield support on the left. Will definitely not look as clean as yours but I like to drive standing up and may be able to see it better? Thanks for the pics!

Here's my iPad mini setup with the Bad Elf dongle on our 232. Running the Navionics Boating app. Mount is the Ram Rollr for iPad Mini, with the single suction cup mount. This may just get me by for a while. Been running the iPhone Navionics app but it's a little tough to see it.

Have the old iPad Mini sitting around doing nothing, so why not?

It actually is better standing than sitting. When sitting the steering wheel gets in the way and you have to move your head to the side. I mainly use mine at night, so I can't confirm in daylight with polarized shades.

Nice! Can you take a picture of the mount you used? Anything to worry about in terms of drilling through the dash?

I'll try to the next time I'm at the slip. No drilling, my 210 has two screws in the middle holding down the metal strip with console buttons. My solution is just two computer case rear slot covers, bent and drilled to reach from the 6mm mounts on the back of the Hook-7 to the existing console screw holes. The metal slot covers are really malleable. I also added some double sided tape and locking washers, but that's it. You can actually see part of the untrimmed slot cover in the upper right of the picture, but I have since trimmed and dremel'd it to look clean and neat.

@Dnobes: Here is my Hook-7 mounting scheme. Double-sided tape is under the console side of the brackets, so the metal strip doesn't get scratched, and the locking washers are on the Hook-7 side of the brackets. I got a bit loose with the dremel in the port side bracket, but you can't see it unless you stick your head (or phone) down between the chartplotter and the windshield.. :)

Great solution! I am mounting my Garmin to the windshield support. Did a dry fit yesterday and it looks like it will work well. I will send pics this week when I get back to the marina.

Found a pretty good solution for my GPS and tested it out today . Works well though doesn’t look great. I will eventually drill holes to mount to the dash.

That looks great! I'm guessing that the bow pass-through is wider on a 232 (never been on one), than on my 210. Unfortunately, if I set up my Hook-7 in that configuration, it would constantly get whacked when I have a boat full of happy folks (myself included) moving around inside while anchored and pitching in wake. I know this, because I have a mirror mounted in that position on the port windshield and that is exactly what happens during most outings. That is a very cool solution though!!
