Re: Volvo DPS-A delay engaging reverse after long runs
Does anyone know if there would be a reason they would need to access the top caps during a drive service?

The dipstick to check the level is in the cap. They can be stripped if the dipstick is over tightened.BigGib wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2019 1:23 pm Does anyone know if there would be a reason they would need to access the top caps during a drive service?
They may have attempted a thread repair so it would be removed. As I mentioned it’s a very special process to tighten but not overly tighten. There’s a Volvo torque spec to be followed.

Re: Volvo DPS-A delay engaging reverse after long runs
I got the boat back and ran it today and no more delay when shifting! They replaced the cone clutches and both drives and they definitely shift much firmer than before. I've always owned Bravo 3's which tend to clunk into gear, this is my first set of VP's. Just want to make sure this is normal?

I’ve owned both.
Although VP invented the duo prop drive, they definitely shift a little firmer.
Our Merc B3 is so smooth you hardly notice it shifting into forward or reverse.

Perfectly normal Big.. they will calm but keep in mind there is two boats back there, that they may have slightly different characteristics ( other that the delay you repaired).
Sounds like your in great shape! Glad they gave you a quick turnaround!

Thanks for all the help guys! I'm glad it's all fixed, now I can move on to things I want to add to the boat. On board charger and underwater LED's are nextcmattj wrote: Sun Jul 14, 2019 5:32 pm Perfectly normal Big.. they will calm but keep in mind there is two boats back there, that they may have slightly different characteristics ( other that the delay you repaired).
