Tachometer reading high

Post by Wildwood Mike »

Have a 2006 Cobalt 210. Great boat and no problems. Today the tachometer started reading high. Sits at 500 with no power. Seems to not hold 500+ as the RPM increases. It seems to gain additional error. Any ideas on cause? Easy fix or need to replace sending unit or tach gauge?

Hello WM. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Sorry to hear about your tachometer woes. What happens when you tap on the glass of the tach? Does it jump back down.

Sometimes there is a switch on the back of the tachometer which needs to be set to the number of cylinders of your engine. Is it set correctly?

If the tach gauge is bad, you can buy a replacement. I believe Faria is the manufacturer in 2006. A used or rebuilt one may be an option.

Any pics of your 210. We love pics here.

Again, welcome aboard mate!

I'm having issues with one of my tachs on my 302, similar problems. I spoke with Cobalt and Faria. They both suggest to send it in for a rebuild. Costs around $100

👍🏼 Sent my lower starboard and speedo. Came back looking and acting brand new. ( 2 week turnaround)
