Tell me about your tough tube

Post by 2ridgebacks »

We just trashed our third tube in three years. Typically, the bladder leaks first, gets patched a couple of times and then the cover fails. We ride aggressively. We double up with the small kids and the bigger ones ride single. Anyone have a “tough tube” recommendation? Considering going back to tractor tubes. We never had a cover to worry about then.

I bought a a Air Head Big Mabel HD last spring, so for it’s been great. We don’t have to air it up several times a day. The downside is that it is heavy to lift and the price.

Air Head Big Mabel 2-seat tube is $202.49 on Amazon... seams reasonable,
maybe this is not the HD version? Heavy, yes.

So far I haven't had a tube fail.

Razor is on year #3.
Big Mabel on year #2
Some bat wing looking tube on Year #3 (kids don't like it much)
High Roller on Year #1
Grand Stand on Year #1

Some of the best water is immediately next to my dock. I usually air up 3 tubes (sometimes 4). We change them out all day as the kids like to try different tubes. I may not be the best example due to changing them regularly.

I don't abuse the tubes, usually pulling at 23-30 mph. However, the water can get rough from the surf boats, and I pull some pretty big adults along with the kiddos.

I will say that my newest tube the High Roller is the best constructed tube I have bought. Pricey, but you can see the quality.

The Super Mabel HD 3 rider on Amazon is $484.48 on prime. That’s about $50 less than I paid at a local boating supply store.

I like the lay down tube NB. The kids and Mom were all about sitting on a tube until we cranked it up a bit. The jarring on your back is no good. That tube has a 510lb weight limit too.

Our Airhead SuperSlice is waiting for a new replacement bladder after a mishap last week. I just picked up a Airhead Griffin III on Friday and my daughter and son’s girlfriend loved it on it’s only outing Friday evening.

We are on year 2 with the Chariot Warbird 3 rider. Like it bc it can be towed both directions. Also take a lot of kids and adults. I have had 6 kids on at one time. Pretty durable so far. This is the closet one I could find to the Super Cross one we had for 5 years.

+1 :!: :!: :!:

.

20 years of tubing....that chariot warbird is voted number one by just about every rider I have taken on her. Crazy stable tube, tough, easy to inflate/deflate, versatile and so fun! Get one now!!! (seen them as low as $250) Ours is on it's 4th year. (YMMV)
