Mine seems to be ok within +/- 10%. The gauge is a simple float mechanism, which leaves a lot of room for error. The issue of dropping from full to very low all at once happens quite a bit I think.

These dealers are a joke, they sell boats and that's it. Yes, this should be done before every delivery. They know it's an issue. We should not have to calibrate a dam thing on a $100k + boat. At least it's not like my Malibu where I would get a low fuel warning beep and on the screen every 5 min that needed to be reset. Drove me nuts, then back to surfing and would have 48 percent gas again. They are all the same!!!!!

Had this happen on my 2022 R8 Surf yesterday. Gauge was showing 50% but literally 5 minutes later it dropped to 3% and we were 6 miles from the marina. While heading back to the marina the gauge jumped to 33% while under way. Upon arrival at the marina and slowing to no wake speed the gauge showed 0%. Filled the tank with 73 gallons so apparently there was ~7 gallons in the tank but the incredibly unreliable gas gauge is very concerning. Pretty disappointed that something so simple could go wrong and potentially leave me and my guests stranded.

I'm having similar issues with my 2022 R6. It'll stay at 100% full eventhough I've run the tank for at least a few hours. Then it will just drop to 60% and it bounced around to 40% up to 70%. When I filled that tank up I put 40 gallons in, so by my math I was around 33%.

This past Friday I still was showing 100%, but I had a few hours on the tank so I decided to fill up anyway. Put 17 gallons in, so I was at 72% full.

Annoying that I can't trust the gauge and I really just have to monitor hours. Based on my fuel burn I should get about 7 hours per tank.

Tips all may go back to your dealers no compensating the fuel Guage from the start. It was a huge issue years ago on the r series. They finally started to get it right but now it sounds like they forgot how to tie their shoes again.

I had the exact same problem on my 2022 R6 surf; I took delivery in September so had the dealer recalibrate over the winter while fixing all the warranty issues, but when I took it out in the spring (with a full tank) my gauges read zero, so I found that in the Garmin screen you can reset fuel level to 100% full, after that it seemed to work, but the small screen to the lower right side of the helm (the Volvo digital gauge) never moves from 100%.

The fuel gauge reads full for a long time on my 2017 R5. I added a "gallons used" item on my display and that is likely more accurate.

I had a similar problem on my R3 last season after the foul gauge seemly working fine after delivery in 2019. It went from 33% to 10% in the matter of 15 minutes. We motored slowly for 1 mile back into the marina and I filled it. Comparing capacity to the 10% showing as left, I clearly had more gas left in the tank than indicated but I had the dealer look at it. they corrected it, but I try and run the tank from 75% (max) to 30% (min) to reduce "fuel level anxiety".
