Thanks Sean, any chance you can show a pic of where you mounted the PP unit? Prob putting one on my boat soon.
The PP gauge/control is factory installed, in place of where the tachometer would normally be on the dash.
You’re probably right about being smoother on the throttle Bfun220, but my son claims my wife made him feel like a submarine as she tried to ‘smoothly’ accelerate. I’m sure there is a sweet spot (just the right amount). We haven’t found it yet. Can you describe your approach to starting a 200+ lb slalom skier in the water?

I think it's easier on the boat and the skiers if throttle up smoothly taking around 3 -4 seconds to reach your set speed. Most of my skiers are around 220lbs

I have it on our 2015 220s w/350 Mag, Bravo 3 drive. It works just fine and does do a good job of very accurately maintaining speed for skiers, but the manual's instructions to "bring speed up smoothly" don't really work for getting slalom skiers up. We put the throttle down, PP beeps when you've hit the target speed, hands off and it levels out fairly quickly. If you hold the throttle down a little longer than necessary, it may take a moment or two to stabilize at the target speed. There is a parameter you can adjust to better match how hard you want to 'hit it!' but I haven't found it necessary to change anything yet. We've only had the boat for a few weeks now though...

Hey C1. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
My understanding is that perfect pass is like a cruise control for the boat keeping a certain speed for skiers who (for example) want a “perfect pass” through a slalom course at an exact speed.
Does it also control the hole shot too? I did not think it did this.
Any pics of your Cobalt?
Again, welcome aboard mate!

It controls the throttle cable to get the correct speed you set it for. You bring it up to speed and it beeps when it is in a range where it can control the cable (range = length of cable)

That’s what I thought. Thanks AJC.
When I read about techniques for pulling folks up using perfect pass it threw me a curveball.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. I'm sure you're right about it being easier on the boat. I still think at 3-4 seconds, my son would wine about being dragged too long before there's enough speed to be able to get upright on his ski. I'm still experimenting, but when I push the throttle all the way forward (boat idling, in gear) I can get him to pop up in less than 2 sec. If I try to graduate my throttle application more smoothly, it can be a tough 3-4 seconds being pulled awkwardly though the water. I know some of it is probably HIS inexperience, but he's also accustomed to being up in 1 second behind friend's tow boats. The main issue with putting the throttle all the way forward is that boat speed inevitably exceeds PP set speed (sometimes by as much as 3 mph) and then there is a brief period of up and down variation until it settles in where it should be. I'll keep trying different methods, and ask skiers to be patient while I get the kinks worked out. I know there is a setting labelled KDW, which is supposed to better align the boat acceleration rate with PP engagement speed?

Yup, really no right or wrong. It's more of a preference.
I have a rope that holds the ski up in the center and further out of the water. It helps a ton. When I hit the throttle as they are coming up and on top of the water I'm already gently pulling the throttle back.

Hi Big Block and thanks. I'll tell him he needs a trainer and I'll never hear another complaint again! My daughter might benefit from that though. Ever taken a video that shows how it works?
Before I first tried using PP, I'd hit the throttle hard and by the time he was up and out I was definitely pulling back or I'd be touching 40 mph! Not safe, so I eased up a little, leading to the complaints about dragging. PP made this simpler by taking control as soon as I hit the GPS target speed. My method isn't ideal though, since PP bounces around managing my over-throttle which creates a litle slow down/speed up condition causing slack, then taut line. Not ideal either, but better coordinated than my hand on the throttle alone. I'll get better!

No I don't have any pictures sorry.
My boat struggles to pull up my son so we don't ski much.

AJ - Do you do a lot of skiing? That seems to me to be the only reason to have PP... to do it after market seems expensive too. Can't we just get you some RGB LED cupholders?
