Popup Ski Pylon Issue/Questions

Ski Pylon turns a quarter of a turn and then stops.

I've searched other threads. Some are left unanswered and some say force it. I can put a frecken pipe wrench on it to force it but I like to know what I'm forcing first. I assume the iron support screws keep the canister aligned with the topside mounting plate. What function do the canister screws serve? I see a drain and I assume it goes to the bilge, if its clear. Not sure when the pylon was used last. I assume a new Cobalt popup pylon would include: the topside mounting plate, the four (4) mounting screws, and the pylon canister with the pylon (is there a P/N?). Also, is the gas cap wrench designed fit the Popup Ski Pylon? Thanks

Just remove it and try to free it up. I'm sure it's just gunked up. Yes you fuel cap key will work. Mine is very free. It doesn't take much to get it to turn.

Thanks BBP. I think try to lubricate the pylon with light oil. Need to check the drain first. It could be sitting in water. This is one of the remaining areas of the boat I haven't checked.

Be careful with the lube. It will make a mess each time you pull it up and Down.
It will get all over your hands every time you go to use it.

Yes, but if it were mine the Liquid Wrench would come out anyway. Yes, its likely to have gunk and crud from water and dirt, and LW will free it up. Once it's out you can clean everything up.

Acknowledge my thought exactly. I may wait till the boats out of the water in a couple of weeks but will report back. Thinking the drain may need wire to clear and I need to test it after the drain hose is removed the I'll attack it with LW, or Mystery Oil taking care of not getting it in the bilge

Occasionally mine is a tad hard to turn. Maybe Liquid Wrench and a loving smack with a hammer or mallet to break it loose? I'm sure you have crud in there locking it up. I'll check mine today a d let you know which way to turn it

Thanks there's directional arrows on the plate ... Boats coming out of water few weeks will tackle it then, and its important you inspect the pylon drain first ... no wacks yet

So when I posted earlier I started to say you have to lift it first before you twist it, but I couldn't remember. Here is a picture of the base of my ski pylon. You'll need to lift it, then turn counter clockwise to the stop, then lift again.
When I haven't used mine (mainly for my SlideRule Umbrella pole extension) it gets full of crud. Its kind of a catchall for everything so I blast it out everytime I get the hose or power washer out. I'm sure yours is full of gunk and its fused itself to the mount.

Yea ours is a it diff. Ours didn't come out like this did. You just twist it and it starts to pop up then you pull it up and twist again to lock it in place.

BBP I'll have to try that... I saw that picture of the pylon and I thought it may be hanging on that notch in the picture. Anyways I let you know what I find but it will be a couple of weeks. BTW I also bought one of those fancy brass gas cap/plyon wrench instead of the plastic Perko one I was using - boy that tool design hasn't changed in 40 years.
