dont go to the dealer, save the $. just get a invoice of what was done.
You guys are killing me.
What parts are they using. What is the warranty of those parts and labor. The danger is always the best place to go. Your records are always there.
Ok is been a long week.

If he has a mechanic who quotes a different price, and they r good then he should choose them. Dealers suck in boating (sometimes not all the time). $13 for a snap on another thread. Seemed like price gouging to me.
Nissan dealer wants $112 to diagnose that I need new struts....no thank you, I’ll price shop
Love you BBP....but I need to talk to your wife about taking your credit cards away

But remember these are business models that have workman’s comp, liability insurance, and expense in tools plus training .
I know crazy their try to be profitable , and retain customers but that what businesses do.
I’ll always pay more for experience, and familiarity .
The parts will be the same. I had the part numbers and that is what he used to develop the quote. I am more than happy to pay more for experience and knowledge, but my experience with boat dealers is very different that auto dealers. I only take my truck to the Ford dealer I purchased it from. The auto mechanics are better trained and more stable IMO. The boat mechanics I've met in my very limited time are not as good. My case in point is Valley Marine in Omaha where I bought my boat. They missed so many things that I'm still paying for. I have zero faith in that dealership and can't believe that there isn't a better dealership in Omaha to carry the Cobalt line.
The person I'm going with does have a very long line of satisfied customers and after reading the negative comments, I don't consider them particularly reliable (very little detail, or the reasons aren't that major.) I can't say 100% that I'm making the best decision, but I didn't have much faith in the dealership, so my confidence level would not be any different. Their only advantage was location and logistics, but for $900, I can drive 180 miles.

It's all good there's lots and lots of great boat techs that are not in dealerships I get that. I just try not to bash them as I know the feeling. I would love to have some of the techs at a aftermarket shop I was at for a month. If you know the value and see the value heck yea go for it.

I'm with you 1,000% BBP. My problem is that I don't know "that guy" or dealer yet because the person/dealer I use this time will be my first. So, I am dependent on references and reviews. I wish we had more chatters here in the DFW/Possum Kingdom area so I could just go to them. I would have much more confidence in those references than what I have now, but in looking at the work to be done, I feel like I can do it myself and I will likely do that eventually when I get the right set up be it a dock with lift or boat garage. The things I would do for a heated and cooled garage........

OK, here is a thought. We get a bunch of chatters together and invest in our own marina and Cobalt dealership. We start at one lake and then expand. Eventually, we will be on every lake in the world and then we will expand to ponds until we control the universe. Who's in?
