Accidentally Turned Off Engine

Post by Airclnr »

As the title says, I was underway and accidentally hit the starboard engine key with my knee. I immdiately turned it back on and ran for a few more miles. Now the shifter in the starboard engine wont come out of gear. I have Bravo 3 drives. How much did I screw up? Thanks in advance for the help.

Does the prop still rotate one way and not the other? If no then possibly cone clutch .
This check will Determine if you stuck your cone clutch or if the shift lever in the outdrive is broken.

I can get the shifter into neutral to allow the engine to start and spin the props forward, but can't get it into reverse. Hopefully this won't cost an arm and leg.

Thanks for the input.

Talked with my marine mechanic and he thought that I may have welded the clutch or possible screwed up the gears. Gonna let her sit winterized until early spring.

Will they give you a discount rate if you do it over the off season?

I'd get it done off season, you don't want to deal with that when everyone else is splashing for summer fun.

If its winterized they can still pop the drive off easy and take a look at it. like everyone is saying, you will be on a loooong wait list in the spring.

I would definitely get it done now instead of waiting for spring. Everyone else with any issue at all will be waiting for spring, and the line gets long! You'll be waiting while everyone else is on the water.
