Sea Trial

Post by AlexV »

The Sea Trial went well. The 25sc handled very well. I can't believe how it turns on the dime. No slip at all in a hard turn. The ride was outstanding. At the end of the sea trial there was no spray on any of the windows. We did some nice turns too. Very little bow rise, it just jumps up on plane. No shakes no rattles. The last outboard I owned was back in the 70's. It was a 2 stroke Eveinrude that was loud and smoked a lot. The Yamaha motor is very quiet and no smoke. The power assist steering is very nice too. When I was there a person was going out on a sea trial with a Crownline that has a Suzuki 350. That motor too was very quiet too. Outboard motors have come along way since the 70's. The radio was only thing I forgot to check. One thing that surprised me was how much smaller the boat looked in the water compared to when it was on land up on blocks. It looked so small in the water. The handover might be Tuesday. The dealer tried to talk me into some kind of wax for the hull and the inside that last 5 years. He wanted $1,500.00 I passed on that. Some photo's I took of my small boat.

Very cool I like it. Too bad you couldn't run out with the crownline to see the diff.

Yes I asked about the tower. My salesmen said he didn't know about the fix from Cobalt but was glad I told him about it. He told me he was going to get with Bill's sales person Anna and find out about it. He told me no problem they would stand behind the factory fix. I believed him. I was happy to hear when Bill told me about the boat house worked with him to fix his boat.

Glad to hear SV.
Sharp color.
I’m surprised to see a windlass with that size.

The Crownline 285xs was my second choice. I did a lot of research online than compared them side by side at the boat show. Every model Cobalt they had at the show just felt solid. From the seats to the hatches to the dash. Crownline had a larger head, I liked the look of the modern wrap around seating and the electric tower Crownline offers. A friend explained it to well to me. When a boat builder offers a lot of boat at a low price point somewhere something has to suffer. Crownline has a lot of plastic. I felt the head compartment door on the Crownline and it felt thin. The latch on the door also felt not well designed. On the Cobalts the head compartment door felt like a vault door. The vinyl on the Cobalt seats is very heavy compared to Crownline. I was surprised when I asked the question on the Crownline forum Crownline VS Cobalt the response I got. Some were brand loyal but some also said you can't compare Crownlines quality to Cobalt. Another said look at the used market. You see many more used Crownlines for sale VS used Cobalts. I tried to find a used 25sc. In a year I saw only 4 for sale. They were sold within a month.

Yea I'm on that forum as well. Good boat just not a great boat. Would it be a second or 3rd choice sure.
I owned one as well. But once I got in a cobalt I became that Cobalt snob😂
I have my eyes on a 2017 25sc to flip but with me living up here in the north I don't know if it will sell. Or if it does I'm sure it will sell down by you. It's just a hard market right now for Cobalt. Hopefully they break into it.
They use a diff stainless steel on a salty built boat if you didn't know that. I bet other brands don't. Again enjoy and stick around and keep posting with Bill on that bad boy

My dealer only asked $1000 which included interior protection and replacement if needed.
I bit.
