Stainless docking lights

Post by Southbound »

Gents I need some more guidance. Sorry I am the "new" guy so still have lots of questions. Dont worry though....I wont ask about trailer tires. :D

My 2002 262 has docking lights but they have a white plastic housing rather than the "stainless cans"? So I am curious if anyone has had the same and can they be upgraded to stainless? From the pics I have seen on-line the housing depth / type looks a little different from the stainless? To me the stainless lights have always been a nice touch by Cobalt.

And if its not too much to ask can someone walk me through the instructions on attaching a picture? I see there is a tab to add pictures but confused on what happens next (img, img??) I would like to share a picture of the lights I have on my boat.

Thanks in advance,

Southbound

Hey SB.

Your white plastic ones can certainly be upgraded to the stainless "can" type docking lights. All it takes is time and money. :D

Probably want to make them LED while your're at it. I believe a few of our members have done this and will post their experience.

....and to add a pic, you can either click on the attachment tab below your dialogue box and then click "add files"

or

click the "add image" radio button above the dialogue box which inserts the [img] brackets. Then just paste your .jpg (or . png) file that you have copied from your computer (or from the internet) between those brackets. 8-)

Hope this helps

Thanks AsLan7 for the response. And hope to hear from the others. I guess my biggest concern is how much fabrication is required to replace to stainless outside of wiring them in? Hoping the existing hole is the same size for the newer housing?

Looks like a different cut out as the oval white docking lights lack the tear drop cut. Easy to cut but not add.
I like the ones you have ( white on white). Formula used those .

Maybe they have a template they could send you?

Pull the housing and have them wrapped in chrome vinyl.

Yeah the hole is different for those from the SS ones, so they won't fit. . Embrace it. Everyone has the stainless lights! Thunder added LEDs and I followed his lead, so they actually light things up now. There's a thread on it somewhere around here..

Update:

Thanks to AsLan7 I was able to speak with Barnegat Lights about my lights and as expected (and mentioned) the hole is bigger for the white light assembly so no chance of adding the stainless lights. So I will embrace the ones that I have and at least upgrade to LED lights. Thanks to everyone who responded. I cant wait to get my boat on the water ......absolutely love the Cobalt brand!!!

Bought a 2006 272 without docking lights and wondering if anyone knows if its possible to install these? I've never seen a 272 with can lights so curious if there isn't room behind the area they would be installed.

Hey ps06272. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Any pics of your (new to your) 272? We love them here.

You should be able to install the stainless docking lights on a 272. They will protrude into the anchor locker like they do on the other Cobalt model series. Drill the holes, insert the docking lights, run the wires to them, and hook to the switch which should already be on your helm (just inactive).

Feel free to start an intro thread only if you have the time. Interesting reading how folks get into the Cobalt brand.

Again, welcome aboard mate!

Thank you. When having them installed is there any indication where they're supposed to be placed/where the holes should be cut? Any way to find out where they're supposed to be placed from factory?

I have not seen any specific specs/diagrams on the site. You might be able to call your local dealer and they can get in touch with Cobalt for the measurements on a 272.

These close up pics on a 262 with a custom installed windlass may get you close  ...Link here.
