So I use to go to a car show every year in Houston called TX2k it started off as a Toyota Supra event but as those died out they moved on to other cars. Mostly Nissan GT-R’s and TT lambo’s. Look up underground racing and see some of the stuff they do. Well any ways one of the days they have a roll race event on the track and to qualify you have to have 1200hp or more. Yes I said that right 1200hp. Most are pushing 2k or more. It’s a great time to be alive.

TX2K is awesome, but those cars are built similar to the salt flat cars, top speed only. 2K HP is cool, but if you need to be going 80mph before the power really comes on makes them pretty useless on public roads. I look at them similar to dyno queens, cool, and pushing the boundaries of technology, but useless to anyone wanting a multi-function vehicle.

Absolutely. They all go after the Texas Mile and build and setup their cars like that. Some are 1/4 drag cars as well. I stopped going because the power/money it takes to build a car like that is something I will never see in my life time. Now I just do the same thing going to the LOTO shootout lol.

So it's a turbo charged 5.0 you are after? No problem. For right at $40k Beechmont Ford in Ohio will add a Roush SuperCharger to your 5.0 powered Mustang or F150. https://www.beechmontford.com/725-horse ... 39-995.htm

You were close, 725hp and 675torques. I don't know how much boost its running, I would guess 6-8lbs.

As far as HP vs Torque. without getting too technical torque is a measure of rotational force. Horsepower is a measurement of power, basically the rate at which the rotational force is applied. Horsepower can be calculated from torque via the following formula: HP = Torque * RPM / 5252. This is why if you look at a dyno curve hp and torque always cross at 5252 RPM.

People always say "Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall. Torque is how far you move it." I never really liked that expression, but it works. Instead think about opening a 20oz bottle of coke. The amount of force you have to use to twist off the cap is torque. The speed at which you spin the top is horsepower.

Perhaps the best way to think about it? Torque is the amount of force it took to snap Epstein's neck. Horsepower is how quickly his head was spun when his neck was being snapped. You know, because he didn't kill himself.

Interesting link Nauti-

I guess I wasn't very clear on my statement about torque. I get the difference between HP and Torque....and how it relates to rotational force as well as what each does relative to how you use it.....Torque for pulling, HP for speed, etc). What I don't understand is what engine manufacturers do internally to make the motor more include to produce HP or Torque and what they do to make the torque come in early and stay flatter on the curve. The new 7.3L ford comes to mind. Very strong numbers for a gasser, but the torque comes on very early like a diesel. That kind of stuff is above my pay grade. I've looked at about all of the Mustang upgrade packages you can imaging....Roush, Saleen, and a bunch of others. Not in the market to drop $40k on a car for a toy at this point, especially when I don't hardly ever drive it.....

Sailor I'll dumb it up so Matt doesn't have to get all of that racing tech lingo out before he drinks a lemonade. Get air in and out as efficiently as you can.
This link gives you a few things you can do to increase each. Camshafts, timing /programing heads /flow and amount of air flow and so on.

 Loce it!

At this Sunday’s church pancake social we will be discussing rotating mass along with inertia. The power needed to accelerate mass and power to maintain it against resistance.
Church folk Loce it cause we use words like big inches along with bore and stroke 🤣

Wait a minute, did BBP just call me dumb?

For the record, I rebuilt the 289 in my mustang when I was 17. I had a very good engine builder watching over me and instructing me but I put together every piece and torqued every bolt. Bored .030 over, 10.5:1 pistons, milled the heads .040 to further increase compression. Sodium lifters and rocker roller arms. Offenhauser aluminum single plenum intake with a Holley 650 double pumper and a 3/4 Isky cam (can’t remember the lift and duration now). All mated to a c6 from a ford truck to take the punishment.

Fun little car. So while I’m not the greatest engine guy, I might have a little more knowledge than some out there.

Then again BBP might be right...I might just be dumb. Lol

   ...awesome Matt. It's like you're discussing the systematic theology of engines....subjects like Cubicology, Boreology, and Strokeology...not quite on the same level as Paterology, Pneumatology, and Christology, but impressive nonetheless.

And then after your final Mimosa you'll be discussing end times and the long awaited coming of the torque Messiah--EV's....but instead of Eschatology, it'll be dubbed Electratology.

I just knew mine would be simple and easy to understand as we call it dumb it up. And I knew Mr lemonade would make it all big boy technical.

Awesome Sailor! This is why you ask the right questions. Don’t mind BBP. If he needs more power he just moves the seat forward 🤣.

My first car was a 1966 mustang. So proud of it here’s the ol plate.

Love it Matt. My first was a 65. Bought it when I was 15. Spent the summer wet sanding it and the had it painted. Engine came next summer. I don’t claim be be a mechanical wizard but I did learn a couple of lessons like the body man makes the painter and when your a kid and an “old guy” tells you to do it a certain way, there’s a reason

The gentleman (heturned down a chance to drive nascar—but that’s another story) that helped me with my engine wanted to put a balanced and blueprinted 351 Cleveland in it that he had built Guaranteed me that it didn’t turn 500hp on the dyno he’d give me my money back but my Dad thought that might not be the best idea for a teen driver so I settled for the meek 289 I described above

I went to wyotech. The first engine I got to rebuild was a 289 also from a rust free 65 mustang I believe it was. During the rebuild I felt like Matt for a second. On the table the pistons were on the rods and all of a sudden they started bouncing up and down on the table. Wth? Then a kid from California goes is a earthquake. He goes now it feels like home here. Lol
My first and only earthquake and my first engine and a sailor called Matt 😂 its a full circle now😂😂

That's awesome BBP! A friend of mine's son is at Wyotech with a specialty in diesel.

Earthquakes are flat out scary....no way around it. I've been through floods, brushfires, tornados, hurricanes and earthquakes. No question, the quake was the freakiest thing I've ever experienced. All I need now is locust and plague and I have Bingo!
