But I’ll throw in my .03 cents.

I liked having a exterior painted Boat for a few years. I was terrified of scratching it like a car but boy was it durable! plus it cleaned up easy .

Formula is know for that imron paint process that even 15 years old and they look terrific!

The side saddle front passenger seat is great with another couple along but awkward with anyone else IMHO.
Formula has offshore Don Aranow ( Donzi/ Cigarette/ Magnum ) so the thinking of a well built tough heavy boat follows it to today’s design.
It’s offshore plus comfort design makes it a luxury wave crusher.

The Cobalt has its obvious history as the R30 is a sexy boat!! A R7 with expansion .... as the lines are more modern. Let’s see what changes in 2021? Maybe it’s suddenly a rebadged and shaped A29 or a design close to it with twins.

She is lower slung in the water, and the layout is more contemporary. She is big and gelcoat so my color choice is also All white with a boot stripe.
This would keep my cleaning addiction to a minimum 🤣.
The hydraulic swim platform is awesome for lounging without a pad, and If components for the platform are serviceable in the future I’m not afraid to have it not work.

So I’m torn as they both possess easy to land on wants..

Let take a ride in each. I still dig yours pal!

With a Single engine..
CMATT, Thanks for your .03 cents. The one thing for sure is the swim platforms. The Cobalt hydraulic swim platform is the goat! Formula's platform is in need of a make over. One of the reason's we are leaning R30.

I respect formulas and think they are great, I am a huge fan of the older ones. The new ones I just feel look dated. To me they look like they are stuck in the early 2000s (yes i know i have a 2003 boat that i love). But the R30 just has that clean classic look to it. This is my opinion based on looks alone. i have never ridden in either boat.
I can’t disagree with that. Formula’s styling does look dated, their interior materials also, but the paint choices make up for it.
Cobalt is resisting more progressive exterior color design change, and maybe they are right by doing so. Cobalt boats are easily recognizable.
If push came to shove, I would probably go with Formula. Something about those color choices...
Tusc, Choices for sure. Hard to get away from Cobalt's hydraulic swim platform vs Formula's outdated platform. I have never captained a Formula 310 so we are going to this spring. Hard decision good and bad on both boats.

Hey TR, I know a lot to think about. Like some things about both boats and don't like some things about both. Trying to think thru all the differences .
When spending this kind of coin at least want to captain the Formula for both ride and performance.

Hey TG,
Well at least I have some pondering to do during this long cold snowy winter. How many days before boating season?

Hopefully spring actually comes in march this year! The last few years up here in MN it seems like we didn’t get spring until June... Trying to figure out why we still live here. :?

Not trying to add to your already set sea trail. But it appears to me The Formula 290 Bowrider is more comparable in layout, and twin Small Block option in relation to the R30. Just a thought as it may check some boxes. Here is another video from the Rabbit hole I fell in

TG I will be interested in your thoughts about your boats condition after being on the water all winter? I tried that with my 246 and have since always trailer ed my boats and put them in my garage at my lake house.

Heck Snow, I'm thinking that here is KC the boating season is short! We have friends in Austin TX and they don't have to winterize. Wouldn't that be awesome!

Hey CMATT, One of many mistakes that I have made thus far in lives journey. My bank had a repossessed 282 and they called me about the value.
It was the only 282 that Cobalt built with twin 502's . This guy had it custom made and went to Neodesha for a week to watch the boat get built.
He lost the boat in a divorce settlement. Should have bought that boat and had a one of a kind Cobalt. Oh well

I’ve always wondered what that would be like! We go to Florida every winter in February or March and see boats everywhere, what would that be like to be able to use our boats all year???
