Ford trailer camera and TPMS

Post by dsthomas »

Hey everyone. I’ve been doing research on the ford ultimate tow package. I have it on my 2019 F250. So you have to make sure your truck is equipped with this package and then in addition to set up your trailer you have to buy an additional package to install on the trailer so that it all integrates into the dash on the truck. Lots of people on the inter-web :p) have used it for regular towing and it’s getting good reviews. But I haven’t seen anyone that’s used it with a boat trailer. Just wondering how the wiring and trailer camera would stand up to being dunked on a consistent basis. Does anyone on this forum have experience with it? I think it’s relatively new just coming out in 2017 I believe.

If it’s like GM it’s slick.
You can run tpms in multiple trailers.
On 3/4 ton there is a wireless camera provision.
One for behind the trailer ( invisible type seen on tv) and another for inside the trailer to watch mostly live stock. ( or family if a 5 th wheel were it’s legal in some states)
Yep it the new big tow feature that most mfg have adapted.

Geez, I’m getting old.
I have all of that stuff on my truck, but no interest in hooking any of it up..LOL.

But if I were to hook up a trailer camera, I wouldn’t expect it to live after being submerged.

Right! Other than the times we’re backing up wondering what’s back there! I’m fine with the hitch cam.

You guys are hilarious. So found a guy on the Ford Truck Forum, his post said he had one on his boat trailer and it did fine. But that was just one post from about a year ago. I asked if it's still working, but such an old thread may not get answer. I can tell you I'm not about to drop 500 bones on it.

If that's all the camera is I would be all over it. I would mount it on my tower. The tpms sensors should have happened years ago. I can't believe it's takin this long to get them to work on our trailers.

Ford just got back to me, the camera is water resistant to cope with the elements. But it's not built to be completely submerged. Bummer. I like the tower idea, but it's actually wired directly into the trailer. I guess I could get a wireless one to mount on the tower, but I liked the idea of having it integrate into the truck. TPMS should be fine because I can mount the box on the tongue of the trailer.

We all can run wires. That's the easy part.

You can get wireless TPMS systems for trailer cheap these days, I plan on putting them on all my trailers this spring. For backing up I use...mirrors.

I put a set on mine and they work like crap. It didn't even tell me when I lost the whole wheel. Lol
Now I only have 3.

Right. That's a nice bonus right now. But hey you can get a extra 2 weeks of free vacation on a cruise ship for free.

I bought mine off ebay. Blue tooth. But it would take for ever for them to connect to my phone. It was terrible. A expensive kit might be better but by the time you get a notification on your phone it's too late anyways.
It. Never did tell me I lost a wheel 🎡🎡😂

What it did teach me is to check the lugnuts before I leave on a long trip. You can not trust anyone. I'm. Petty sure someone loosened them up on me. I check. Mine after a trip or 2 just to make sure they are good to go. Then in the middle of July after already going 5 hrs north they just don't come loose by themselves.
