Trailer Tires
Look away Thunder Five Five Oh...Look away.
Ok it's time for new tires on the trailer. They were brand new in 2017 just before I bought the boat, but they have 5 trips to Bull Shoals and/or Table Rock plus numerous (20 or more) trips to our local lakes. I knew it would be close, but I put another TRL trip on them at the end of last year. We had a BLOWOUT. We made the rest of the trip on the spare, but it is time to upgrade.
I already know I want to get Goodyear Endurance tires for the boat. I'm getting 5 of them suckers. The trailer I have is actually a pretty good one, but it came with 14" tires. The ones that are on there are C rated, and they squat REALLY bad. Is there ANY reason anyone can think of why I can't upgrade to 15" wheels and then go with D rated tires? I have upgraded to D's on my utility trailer and it made it tow a ton better. It would seem to me that a taller tire with less RPM's is going to stay cooler. I have plenty of room in the wheel wells to add another inch.
So second part of the topic: What 15" wheels should I get? It's just a fairly plain Jane aluminum trailer, but I'd like to spice her up a tad and not blow the budget at the same time.

Re: Trailer Tires
l went with new rims. Just look at the load rating on the rims too, I put on the endurance as well. I have no issues with them. Just retourqe the lugs after the first and second and third trip. I hated to see my new tire and rim go flying off at 60mph. Scary crap right there. I always check before I leave on a trip I don't trust anyone anymore.

Re: Trailer Tires
I actually did notice that some of the rims I looked at today were not rated very high. Did you do D rated (65 psi)?Big Block Power wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 6:36 pm l went with new rims. Re: Trailer Tires
Yes the endurance is 65psi I believe. The mph rating is higher too. I think it's up from 65 to 85?

Re: Trailer Tires
Yeah it’s 87 which is another huge selling point to me.Big Block Power wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 6:44 pm Yes the endurance is 65psi I believe. The mph rating is higher too. I think it's up from 65 to 85?

The best part is, going from 14 to 15 inch you are really only adding a half and inch all the way around. (half an inch on the top, near the fender {clearance area} and a half an inch on the bottom, near the road.)shrfdeputy wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2020 5:28 pm I have plenty of room in the wheel wells to add another inch.

Good point that I bet a lot of people miss. Ok, it’s me. Re: Trailer Tires
I ordered 5 of these today from Tire Rack. They will come with Goodyear Endurance 215/75/15's already on them. Those are E rated tires, so a TON more load carrying capacity and 85 psi. They should be here Tuesday! Now I'm on the hunt for an in-car trailer TPMS system that will actually give real-time temp and pressure updates.

Re: Trailer Tires
How and will your tire rack balance the tires?
Those will look nice

Re: Trailer Tires
They include balancing at no cost. I was skeptical so I emailed their customer service before I hit the order button. They assured me they will show up ready to go.Big Block Power wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:33 pm How and will your tire rack balance the tires?

Re: Trailer Tires
They will prob use tape weights. To put the tpms sensors in you will have to break the tires down.

Re: Trailer Tires
I was looking at those ones that replace the valve stem cover and have a wireless receiver in the truck.Big Block Power wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:43 pm They will prob use tape weights. To put the tpms sensors in you will have to break the tires down.

Re: Trailer Tires
Yea good luck on those. I haven't looked since last year. If they are cheap they won't work. I did the whole sensor and they were blue tooth and they take for ever to connect and work like crap . Unless you can find a good expensive kit I think you're just wasting money.shrfdeputy wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:45 pmI was looking at those ones that replace the valve stem cover and have a wireless receiver in the truck.Big Block Power wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:43 pm They will prob use tape weights. Re: Trailer Tires
Well that’s sort of what I’m finding after reading reviews. You’ve got to spend pretty good money to get one that has decent reviews. Still would have been nice to see the temp creeping up when I blew trailer hubs twice on the same trip last year.Big Block Power wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2020 5:47 pmYea good luck on those.
