Thinking about a 2020 R7

That’s my biggest concern, buy now or wait....I’ve talked to some folks that think an R6 will be this year and an R8 OB could be late this year also or spring next year....running and owning an R7 in saltwater will probably ensure I plan on owning for a while.

I think you are right about the staggering of the introduction of each new R model, but I don't think Cobalt introduces one and then waits to see how the market reacts before introducing the rest of the lineup. All of the R series (3, 5, 7) are based on the same hull and interior (stretched or shrunk), so its not like the R6 will come out as planned this July, Cobalt will wait to see how it sells and if it doesn't sell well, will go back to the drawing board (at least not as far as the hull or deck layout is concerned).

I'd seen pictures of a pre production complete R8, but the plan is to introduce the R6 in July and the R8 several months after that.

If the OP can wait until fall, he will likely be able to choose between a new R8 or a leftover R7, based on what I was told by the Cobalt rep at our local boat show. The R8 will be a more expensive proposition though if you want to maintain the same performance. It will be about 600 lbs heavier due to a new stringer system and construction method, meaning an R7/350 will need to be an R8-380 to have the same performance. That adds about $10,000 (msrp) on its own. Then I'm sure the boat itself (base price) will be up. Some things to consider.

We are doing a sea trial on a 30sc tomorrow, if it works in our shallow water, I suspect that will be our route...it’s a beautiful boat but definitely stretching our budget...it’s hard to dismiss everyone here in fla comments on going OB for the long term in saltwater.

Sea trial on 30sc went great, no issues with our shallow opening and what an amazing boat powered by twin 300 Yamahas....really smooth!

Now the negotiations have started and the stock market has everyone nervous....hoping this might assist with all the chaos going on right now.
