Hello,
I just purchased a CS22 with a B3 drive and would like to start from day 1 giving every advantage to maintaining the drive system. I have read about the B3 struggles with corrosion due to the big stainless props. I know folks say to add the prop nut zinc, but it seems like there are still some that have issus - even in fresh water and on trailer boats. This may not still be an issue with new drives but I haven't read where they changed anything on newer drives. With the Simrek being stainless would anyone have concern about making the problem worse? My boat won't spend a lot of time moored. Maybe 3 weeks or so a year in fresh water. Is it better to battle the heat or corrosion. Which one is the more likely the bigger issue?
Thanks!
Thinking of adding drive shower are they all stainless?

Those issues were from prev years. I haven't heard of the issues on later drives. That would be the first thing I would put on any merc drive.

I'm just knowledge seeking here, but is this correct that a brand new Bravo III drive requires the owner to install an aftermarket cooling system to avoid overheating the outdrive? I know VP isn't perfect, but how can a manufacturer as old and large as mercury not have this detail covered in the design?Big Block Power wrote: Fri Mar 06, 2020 7:32 pm Those issues were from prev years. Not required by Merc., but a strong consideration to stop the chalky residue deposits on the upper gearcase.
B3's have always suffered from high running temps. The chalky-ness is from boiling the water instantly at the surface of the drive once they're dunked back into the water after a prolonged run.
FWIW... I just bought a new-to-me boat and drive showers will be the first addition to the B3X drives.

I definately will be adding one of these though I would suspect drive lube has improved since the B3 was first rolled out.

Honestly that lube prob hasn't changed in a very long time.XLI wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2020 5:58 pm I definately will be adding one of these though I would suspect drive lube has improved since the B3 was first rolled out.
