Always Admired Cobalt

Post by ggcline »

Now I have one. Hello to forum members.

I am attaching a couple of photos of my 2006 220 for your viewing pleasure. Replacing a Bryant 196 I have owned for 19 years. Great boat. This should be even better once the ramps open up here.

Just the venerable 5.0 270 hours. That is fine for now. Just had a complete service engine and DP. Fortunately I had a local dealer do an inspection and the seller had them do a complete service on engine and drive. (oil & filter, fuel filter, serpentine belt, impeller, plugs, distributor cap, drive lube, battery) A big, expensive plus.

Only exception is pulling drive and doing bellows and alignment which I will have done after I enjoy for a while. Bellows appear to be in very good condition. I do have a new Gussi steering wheel from eBay to replace the original wheel. The wood is beginning to split. A few minor nits and it will be in terriffic shape.

Sounds like a nice ride. Bfun has the 5.7 and it does quite good. I can't see the decal on the engine. it looks like a GI engine though.
You will have to let us know through the summer how you think the boat is performing for you. You do any water sports?
I love that color. Hopefully it's not sun faded. That color is a tough one to crack.

Thanks for your Crayola reference but it appears.. the color black was left of the list.

The Cobalt color is called Mahogany (maroon in the crayola box). It is like new because a previous owner had a mooring cover made with covers on each side.

It would not be my first pick for a color but it is growing on me. I will need to keep it well waxed.

The engine is a 5.0 270hp GXI. Duoprop with an F5 stainless prop set.

That's nice is a Gxi. Bonus. Almost has as much hp as the new Volvo 280 v6. But I think it will keep up to one.
Boy she likes gas at 5000 rpms. 21.4 gph but cruising at 3000 rpms she sips at 7.5gph.
Here's a chart for ya.

You should buy some boat bling Hot Sauce for her. That's a must. Use gloves while using it unless you
Like vinegar smell. It will get rid of water spots on her. Also has uv protection. A few of us use Adams H2O to wax her. But I've been disappointed they are trying to make money off covid. Just me. Bio Kleen polish is awesome too. Both very easy on and off.
So is it a fresh water boat? Where are you going to be using her?

Just in case you need to mix up some touch up gel here are the colors you will need from your crayon box.

Welcome to the 220 club, ggc! Call it whatever color you want, I dig the combo.

Just did the Gussi wheel upgrade on mine over the weekend - which wheel did you go with?

See below. I have not installed it yet. I think the steering shaft is a 3/4" tapered shaft. Are there any keys or is it just a locking taper you push on and tighten?

See the photo attached for the wheel I bought. I knew it would be high quality because it is used by Cobalt.
