They do quite a bit of heavy custom work. The owner is very friendly and should point you in the right direction with a contact or recommendation towards the best of the best local options.

I did and was not easy to do. Moved to Florida (Palm Beach) so I'm shopping in the OB market currently.

OK I WAS having a great day until...beeping at the helm and smoke/steam with crackling from back of boat. Had an odd smell like something was burning. No flames. Temp 200. I limped back into dock and know I am thinking I need a new thermostat (hoping). Ive removed the housing and looking at this. Motor still starts fine but heats up quickly. When I use the water fill it still heats up. When I put water down engine (where I removed thermostat) it still beeps but reads normal temp as I believe the sensor is on the thermostat housing. Any ideas?

Just removed thermostat all together reassembled and still overheats. Water pump? I see it rotating ok. Ugh.

That sensor on the tstat housing looks to be the ecu sensor. Those tstats are goofy on the 8.1. Everyone is so diff. Yes replace it. Plus I would pull the impeller apart to see what it looks like.

I was thinking the same thing. Is one of his hoses or connections losing water somewhere? Is that the water spraying (crackling) you are hearing and the steam you mentioned (from the water hitting hotter parts of the engine) from a leak?

The impeller was trashed. I think most that water was from me filling up the water spout to test.

Upon removing the thermostat is gives 2 options. One for 140, the other for 160 degree. Why pick one over the other?

The crackling noise ONLY happens when it starts to overheat at 200 accompanied by steam (I hope). I cant find anything online which thermostat to get. 140 vs 160. Also, are the fins from the impeller gonna "go away" over time or do I need to hunt them down?

Ok it will say on your star what it is. Volvo had a bulletin to replace the 140 to the 160. Mine still had the 140 in it. There is a reason why they wanted to buy that's not a big deal here. It's only so the oil gets warmer. So it won't turn to sludge as easy. Ok let's not be taking pieces of impeller. It's this what you have going on. Let's see pictures of the impeller. 1st this is a new to you boat right. Did you get a copy of maint from the prev owner? When I sell a boat I always tell the new owner to always replace the impeller before going out. Because when they fail its never good and rather fix something before it goes bad. You need to start your maint as then you know what was done going forward. Then after this let us know what other maint was done. Or else let's get on that before we go any further this year.

Those pieces are in your power str cooler. By your tstat, exhaust manifolds, fuel cooler. I'm think of more spots. But you have to find them. Some guys back flush to help get them. On a Volvo this is such a easy thing to change is not a bad thing to do every year.
If you Google impeller pieces you will find all sorts of help.
Also some 8.1 have 2 tstats

This won't work for a 2008 252...unless you know of some modifications that will make this work....like a huge set of scissors and a sewing machine.

(Btw, the carpet in that pic is for the engine platform walk-thru, engine platform step, and aft seat of the 260 series.)
