Did you actually notice a difference in performance bolting those on a stock engine? They look so cool, but that alone doesn’t justify the spend if it’s more show than go for me.

Honestly, no gain at all. Slight loss actually. About 30 RPM lost. BUT...... I never rejetted the carb so that might have played into it.

I was actually looking to reduce weight in the rear and gain a few RPM if I could to spin a 23p prop. That heavy engine in the back of the boat made planing a chore with people sitting back there. So I figured I'd cut weight with the exhaust and maybe go aluminum intake manifold too. Estimated about 60 lbs could be shed by doing them.

Looks great and sounds nice. The guys on the performance boards will tell you though, exhaust alone will get you nothing. BUT... you need the exhaust if you do anything else to help the engine breathe. So, exhaust by itself = nothing. But if you do a cam, intake and carb, supercharger or turbo, you'd better have an exhaust

No doubt, I still want them, lol. When it’s time to replace my manifolds I’ll try and convince Mrs akor shiny parts are worth the extra $$$.

Depending on what you want, there's a couple options.

1. Aluminum manifolds from GLM if you're looking to shave weight.

2. Used set of GILS exhaust if you want to save weight and gain performance on the cheap

3. Dana, Eddie Marine, or Hardin Marine if you want new budget aftermarket exhaust

Ha, well funny we’re taking about this. Found the starboard riser is leaking and the bolts look original 🙁. Definitely on a budget, but would like to get some aftermarket jewelry. Time to do some shopping!

Xlint, here is the bilge blower setup on mine. All these pics have made me decide to take a day and detail the bilge top to bottom...

Where are you seeing used GILS?

Thanks for the pics. You got 2 blowers on yours? Mine's only got 1. And the dumb dumb, has got it mounted at the bottom, not up top like yours.

Appreciate that.

Thanks BBP, there's 2 sets of GIL's on Ebay for around $500 for the manifolds. Still need to source the risers though. Gils always had long risers for through hull, so if you keep the captains call, may need to modify or install different risers.

Just thinking out loud here, so bear with me.

Where does the engine get all it's fresh air from? Your vent hoses are all using the transom mounted vent on starboard side. That just leaves the port side transom vent open. I know the filler panels on the sides aren't air tight, but there's really no openings around the gunwales for air to come through.

I wonder if it would be beneficial to install side vents to circulate more fresh air? You could install a louvered vent starboard side facing forward to grab air while under way. The air should then flow over your flame arrestor towards the port transom vent and the other louvered vent on the port side facing rearward to exit.

Can't help it, I'm always tinkering with things.

Thoughts?

Yes fresh air it pretty much only comes from the port side on mine. It really doesn't get that hot back there. The engine is only 170 degrees you can put your hand on the manifolds. Guess really not that much air can come from anywhere else. They pretty much block the engine compartment off.

Yeah, I’ve opened the hatch right after a few hard runs to check timing and it’s nice and cool back there, so it’s obviously getting decent airflow. You could always put a snorkel coming up through the sun pad and plumb it down to the intake! 😎

Actually was really in the belly of the beast today. I'll post pics tomorrow.

My idea was a bit off. The FA would be in front of the incoming air on the side, so it's a moot point there.

However.... I can't comment on yours, but at least on mine, there is an opening to the gunwales (above the speakers and drink holders) and a little opening from the panels dividing the bench seat from the engine compartment. So there is a source of fresh air coming into the engine compartment

Yeah, mine is the same way.
