Fabricated Flag Pole

Post by Krob1114 »

I was thinking about fabricating some kind of flagpole that would fit over the tow post in the rear.
Any one done any thing like that?

Maybe get a 4'x6' American Flag. Cobalt Flag. New Orleans Saints Flag.

Any reason not to do it?

They sell factory direct. They used to make them for Cobalt before they decided to go to a China made manufacture.

Would be nice to not have to cut a hole in the deck...

I bought the Tig Tech flag pole kit and was impressed with the initial quality. Installed it last year and found the pin that holds it in place came out. Had to JB Weld it back in place. Other than that, it is pretty solid and looks great!

Contact them. I bet they replace it or replace it for free. Great people.

+1 for Tig Tech! It was my first modification after purchase, and so far the best. Made in USA, as all American Flags should be. Customer service was great, as I wanted the Stars & Bars and not the yacht flag with anchor. Very high quality--both stainless and the flag.

Worst part was figuring out where to locate and actually cut the hole into the deck to mount the receiver. Yikes! Nothing, however, that can't be solved with a hole saw, 3M Marine 5200, and bolts. In short, tape-off where you want to cut, measure, measure, measure! When cutting into the deck, start the drill/hole saw in REVERSE and flush to the deck, to score into gelcoat without chipping it. Then switch to forward to drill through. Don't worry about the angle too much. You can file under the deck to make the receiver fit flush on the deck. Once fitted, drill the bolt holes, then apply 5200 to ensure a water tight fit and to seal the fiberglass you just cut through. I used a lot, so be prepared to wipe any excess off the deck quickly--it can be messy. Bolt it down and let it cure.

Yep, cutting a hole into a pristine factory-new gelcoat can be intimidating, but the results are well worth it for this modification. :D

Awesome post. Awesome boat! I just bought a 2018 CS23 and want to mount a flag. I received this pole/flag for Christmas from the fam and I must say I am very impressed with the quality! I really like the mounting brackets from the pole to the flag. Also, much more affordable vs. Tig. Couple of concerns...

1. The mount/base is not flush. Should there be any issues with that? Any thoughts?

2. With that mounting position, have you ever encountered any issues with docking (i.e., the ropes getting in the way given the proximity to that rear cleat)?

Thanks, in advance!
