2020 R3 Rockford Head Unit is Acting Up.

Anyone having issues with the new Rockford head units? Sometime nothing works with no volume or control. Can't turn it off either. I have a remote unit in the back also, just wondering if anyone is having the same issue. It's a Platinum system.

No issues at all C57 (after two years). Pretty reliable units.

Did you try a factory reset?

We will see what some of the new owner guys say. I know some have. Some have had them replaced and some just reset. Maybe search some threads but good luck and welcome.

I had the same issue with my 19 R7 with premium sound. Dealer replace the head unit under warranty. Haven’t had an issue since.

Same as tgrace here! Rockford does have firmware updates for these devices. You have to update them in a four-step process. Some of their recent releases do address stability concerns so it could be helpful if you're adventurous.

Keep in mind that some do a complete reset of your headunit. You'll have to rename zones, reset presets, etc.

I have had the same issue recently. My RF head unit would stream music but all buttons were dead on both head units (helm and stern). Next time I'm out boating, it starts working again. When I last left the lake it was working so fingers crossed.

Hey Tbully....what is this 4 step process? Is this something you can do "at" the head unit or do you need access to the unit under the head storage?

It's an easy process. You just need 4 USB "sticks" which plug in to the USB port on the "port" (heh) side of the boat by the bathroom door. You put one update file on each stick and go through the process (in order) one by one.

Again, get ready to rename your Zones (Cockpit, Bow, Transom, Tower) and re-add presets (including Sirius), etc.

Sorry to hear that C57. What are the symptoms?

Still no issues yet with our PMX5-CAN after using it quite a bit this summer. 2 years old and haven't had to update either.

ugh that sucks man. So no volume control and it is just pretty much locked up? I noticed on the R6/8 they went with an infinity head unity in lieu of the RF unit. I still plan on changing mine out once my warranty expires.

I ended up having mine replaced under warranty as well. No issues since but I’ve heard of so many problems with these units. Next time mine goes out....and I’m assuming it will....I’m going with another brand.

RF has big issues with this. I had the same issue. Intermittent issues resulting in having to turn boat batter off to fix it. Dealer replaced head unit and problem continued. I upgraded to latest firmware, no success, dealer replaced everything else. Both remotes, Y connector even a battery on the boat. Finally replaced the head unit again and no problems since.
Basically the issue is the head unit. They probably replaced it the first time with a refurbished one that had the same issue but passed testing.
Have the dealer replace the Head unit, if the problem persists have them replace it again with a brand new unopened one. If the problem persists have them replace it again. Once you get a good one you are solid, but getting there can be a pain.

Definitely sounds like a bad batch.
