Anyone replace the “phallic” Sony wired remote?

Post by Revolver1978 »

My 1998 200 has the -I think - factory installed Sony wired remote. It pokes out like a stubby carrot, and of course isn’t connected to the radio, which isn’t original.

Anyone replace theirs? I’ll post a picture of it. Strangest looking thing.

I did pull on, but nothing came out - I mean, nothing happened.
Sony has no support for it except the installation guide. And or course the hole is an odd size and shape.

I did have one of those on a boat. It's been awhile. You should be able to get to the back side of it pretty easy.

I have one of those. I actually don’t mind it as I still have a Sony head unit. But looking to replace that and the large projectile on my dash. ;)

Pull/push up on it. It's got 4 hooks into the mounting piece. From there you could cut the cable and remove it.

I just bought a 1997 200 and it has that same remote thing. I haven't messed around with it much except for the day after I brought the boat home and was sitting inside exploring my new toy and tried out the stereo.

I was a little bummed when I noticed the CD player doesn't have Bluetooth, or at least an auxiliary input/headphone jack.

After our first trip to the lake and barely getting any FM reception, I came to the conclusion that I need to get a better head unit, because the last thing I want to bring on the water is a binder full of CD's and explain to my 4 young daughters "what a CD is and how it works"...

It doesn’t have an aux jack in the front face plate? Is it the silver Sony CD player? Mine has a 10 disc changer as well, no binders for me! 😂 Honestly don’t even know if it works, because our original head unit has an aux jack on the bottom right of the face.

Nope... Not that I saw anyways. It just seems to be a basic Sony AM/FM CD player. I'll get a picture of it next time I'm in the boat and get the model number and see what I can find on the ol' interwebs...

I was able to download an Owner's Manual for the boat, but I'm still looking for the manual for the motor. With so many different variations, it gets confusing on which one I need to download.
