Check engine message and 1 beep

Hello,
Have a 14 220 with the 5.0 dp volvo penta. Started boat after a couple hour run and than a 1 hour system off drift and got a single beep and a check engine message on the dash. Message went out after around 5 seconds and no other beeps. I was trying to find a scanner to pull codes but looks like almost impossible to get one. I am a ase master tech of 30 years at a Chevy buick dealer and know the automotive ones do not work. Looking to purchase a scanner or software for a laptop. Anyone know of any good ones out their?
