Mooring cover pooling on new 2019 CS23
Just bought a new 2019 CS23 this week with Cobalt mooring cover. On Day 2 we had a heavy rain and I found water pooling on the bow and stern parts of the mooring cover. I seemed to have the straps fairly tight coming off the two support poles. Actually the bottom of the front support pole was suspended off the floor of the boat before the cover went on over it. It seems like the poles are too short even though they are extended all the way out. Anyone else have this problem? Operator error? Suggestions?

Hey CB. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
That water pooling on the cover is definitely a result of your poles being too short.
Check out GreatLakesskipper.com or Overton’s and buy some ones that extend longer. Should be an easy fix.
And welcome aboard mate!

It does sound like the poles are too short. Call your dealer and tell them about your problem. I'm sure they'll get you fixed up.

Interesting that the mooring cover doesn’t have tent top vents. I agree that the poles are too short. You should talk to your dealer.

Unfortunately the two poles that came with the cover don't have just a snap on the top. They have a flat plastic plate on top and bottom. The support straps are sewn into the top plate. I don't see anything on the two websites suggested above like these. Here is the type cover.

Those covers require a specific strap and pole kit for your model. I do not know for sure but I think the pole and strap kit may be the wrong model. I just got a replacement kit for my mooring cover, and the tag listed the specific year and model it was made for. I would check that first. The cover looks right, but I think the pole and strap kit is wrong.
Also interesting that the cover does not have the vents in top as well. I would be seriously looking into adding those.

I have dealt with commercial sewing and they could make it right for you...they always have for me. But being a new boat go through the dealer at first...and they should do it for you

Just an FYI, good luck. I had to have my dealer ask for 12 months straight to get a replacement support pole and strap kit for our mooring cover from commercial sewing. Literally a $60 kit, and Commercial Sewing would not ship it forever. I finally had to get it added to the Marina's larger cover order this spring and wait for 4 months to arrive once the 5 covers were made and delivered. It was pitiful. Next time I'm just going to fab the support pole/strap setup myself. You can get all the poles and 1" webbing from many sources. Would take an afternoon of labor to cut straps to length, and finish them neatly.

It has them. They're right on top of the windshield.BobRae99 wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 11:13 pm Interesting that the mooring cover doesn’t have tent top vents. I agree that the poles are too short. You should talk to your dealer.

Same boat same cover here, the support poles on mine seem to be the correct length. I had a puddle on the stern as well, I place a foam pad, about 3 inches thick and 36" square, over the rumble seat when I strap the cover down. No more puddle.

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. Yes, my cover does have the rubber vents just above the windshield. I have contacted the dealer and he is working on a solution for the water pooling. BTW, I owned a 2006 Cobalt 220 that I just loved. However, there are many new features on this new Cobalt CS23 that are fantastic compared to my older unit: redesigned swim deck, interior LED lighting, DTS, stern facing rumble seat, aft walk-through, sea grass carpet. Love the new boat!

Crazy, I don't even have to use the poles on my R7. The windshield is tall enough and with it going over the swim platform the rear seat holds it up enough.

Re: Mooring cover pooling on new 2019 CS23
Hey, everyone. I just bought my CS23 and got the mooring cover this week. I spent an hour or so trying to get it to fit tonight. No way I could get it on the boat. I tried several times, realigning everything per the video I found online and the instructions that came with it. It seems to be simply too small? Any ideas? The anti pooling straps fit, but I have to extend them almost to the max - maybe 1-1.5" of strap left in the buckle. I will contact the dealer tomorrow but figured there might be some wisdom here! My CS23 is a 2020.
