I just question... How the hell do you sleep at night?... because you flat out STOLE that beauty!

It's likely due for a good dose of maintenance. For good measure, I'd plan on replacing all the bellows, new gimbal bearing, impeller, drive lube and outdrive alignment while you're in there. You'll figure out the speed / engine issue in time. Start with fresh fuel, new fuel filters, an oil change, a new set of plugs, wires & distributor.

Well I just got back putting plugs, wires, cap and gas filter in. The bad news. The distributor was corroded under the cap when changing this out. clean now. The plugs where at factory spark plug gap of .025 instead of .035. and the big deal was number five and eight plugs had water on the plugs. Probably had water that would compress and hydro lock the engine so the flywheel wouldn't turn. So the starter stripped the flywheel. The bellows came in today. Yah! It ran like a champ all day. With what I found wrong I don't know how it even ran. Is fixing this going to help my speed? I am not about that. I would like to get 40mph out of her though. I just hope that it is realistic.

Question is where did the water come from? Did you do a compression check?

Healthy that engine/hull combo should do mid 40s all day.

We're going to do a compression check. We're not sure about to water yet. They are a lease three different causes we came up with to check. So close and yet so far.

An '87 Condesa with a rebuilt 454 can do mid 40's at WOT. However, with 700 hrs on her engine, and the other issues you mentioned, if you want that speed, I fear you're into it for a bit more than $2k.

You sure that's an '87 Condesa? I ask because the cockpit seating is not right for that year Condesa.

Let’s not get hung up on hours when the real issue seems to be lack of maintenance. My last boat had 3000+ hours and ran like new, and my 252 has 1000 hours and purrs like a kitten.

I will check into a leak down test. Some of what I've read is they talk about the risers being the problem.

Risers certainly can be where the water is coming from, but the leak down will tell you what internal damage you may have.

I have a 88 Condesa w/454 B1. I run a 21P SS prop and with 4ppl aboard I can hit 52-53 mph no problem.

Wow what a beauty! and you got it for a steal. hopefully the motor checked out for you ok. the exhaust manifolds and risers definitely need to be checked if the condition is unknown. even if they have small cracks or pinholes the water can weep back into the motor when its not running. also its amazing how smoothly an engine can run even when its down a cylinder or two lol. Was the oil milky at all?
