I cut at least 5" for the umbrella base and may have to cut more....still a little too top heavy.

Cool idea. Almost exactly the same color boat as mine. What is the oval stainless piece on your swim platform?

Just search for a SS tube 2 1/4" for the pylon, or see the tube supplier below.. The SS tube for the umbrella is based on the the umbrella that you buy. Offset umbrellas to me are obviously the best for the boat. My umbrella is shown below (amazon - out of stock). if you buy a RUBEDER you will most likely need a 2 3/8" SS tube. Tube length of 12" is fine...your most likely going to cut the length anyways.

Weld both tubes together. Ask the welder to drill the thru hole that's shown in the sketch. (thru hole: a drilled hole drilled completely thru both side of the tube). If I did it again, I'd drill the thru hole as close to the weld as possible.

You want the weight (force) of the umbrella as much as possible straight down on the pylon fitting. Cutting the length of the adapter/umbrella base, as needed, will cause more weight to be place straight down on the pylon. Find the medium. In other words, you want the umbrella adapter vertical as much as possible and not angled, i.e. reduce wants called the moment (tip over) force.

It's the best and cheapest boat mod yet w/ exception of umbrella cost. The first time we used at the sandbar it started pouring for 20 minutes. As the other boat screwed, we just turned the umbrella around and rested it on the Bimini and it covered the cockpit until the rain stopped.
