Refurbishing trailer

I don’t use my trailer much as my boat stays on a lift at Norris Lake. However, we want to check out some nearby lakes and I also need to fix my ladder so now is a good time to take the boat out. The only issue is that there is some wear in the carpet and the bunks are starting to weather. I went to west marine and they do have carpet so I’m good there (btw...are they going out of business? Almost no inventory and lots of empty shelves). My question is...is there a special type of wood I should use? I’m sure for the plywood I need exterior grade but for the bunks is pressure treated lumber ok?

I used pressure treated when I replaced my bunks a few years ago. Should be ok.

T5billion has great ideas on how to rebuild a trailer! Even if it costs twice as much as a new one

So on my bunks the factory rounded the inner section of the boards where the v sits on next to the other bunk. Thought it was a cool idea.

Coming back to life. Actually amazing shape when I got all the grime off. The bunks were in perfect condition( except carpet) but the hardware was not. I’m not sure why stainless hardware wasn’t used originally. I need to do some minor rust repair on the uprights and then recarpet the bunks. The only wood rot I found was in the plywood used on the inside of the wheel wells. I am replacing with marine grade 3/4” plywood and recarpeting. Should be good as new. I guess this is an endorsement for the trailer manufacturer. I’m not sure they are still in business but it is a Vanguard Trailmaster.

For trailers that sit out with nothing on them I cover them with UV tarps.

Saves the bunks! And everything else.

Replaced the wheel well boards (rotted out) with black high density polypropylene (HDPE) cut
to fit... no carpeting needed, and it will never rot again. Used a hand router to roll the sharp
edge off the exposed side, then filled the crack with black silicone caulking. OK so far....

Will get pics next trip to the lake. The old carpet was black, so the black polypropylene
looks pretty much the same. The way the trailer and bunks are set up, there's no chance
for the hull to contact the wheel well area unless you come in at a really steep side angle
to the trailer, or 'way off-center.
