Welcome to the forum. We have the premium sound and we love it. Extra speakers in the back were enough. I don't allow "boom box type of rap" on our boat, so one bass speaker by driver is enough. I'm impressed by the quality of the sound from the Rockford Fosgate. Seperation and clarity are great. Listening to old Stones, it's like Keith Richard is on one side of boat, and Ron Wood on the other.
R3 is perfect for out needs...even with the base 300 hp.

Personally the premium sounds perfect. Everyone loves their JL speakers and you get the extra pair for the transom plus the transom remote. Speakers on the transom are awesome for when you are hanging out back there in the water. You don’t have to turn up the cockpits speakers so loud that people can’t call in the boT bc u want to hear it in the water.

I will also say I didn’t know that Roswell was better than JL

I haven't been able to adjust the sound levels on our 2019 R3 with premium sound. I thought you should be able to turn volume up or down in each zone. I haven't been able to get it to work. A few months after purchase, we went on the water with dealer's new boat captain, and he wasn't sure if it was designed that way, or something not correct on our boat.

Anyone care to chime in?

My 2 year old son always pushes buttons and changes it on me. He also figured out you can play one source at one zone, and a different source in another zone.
I always struggle with correcting it. I believe you have to push the volume button in, and then select the zone and then adjust volume. I will play woth it next time I am out and let you know. But yes it is most certainly setup with zones, as long as you have multiple amps.

It took a little practice to change the zone volume but it is a great feature. I use it much more than I thought. I’ll try to explain ,but it will probably take some hands on tinkering with it to figure it out.

Start by pressing the volume button and holding down
After a couple of seconds the volume levels appear in the normal circle for all three zones (bow, cockpit and transom)
Pay attention to which zone is displayed in larger font at the top of the display. This is the zone you will be adjusting first
Turn the knob to adjust the volume for that zone.
Then quickly hold in the knob again and the next zone will be displayed.
Turn the knob to adjust volume for that zone
Then quickly hold in the knob again and the last zone will be displayed and repeat the process.
After you adjusted the zone(s) don’t touch anything for a few seconds, the screen will go back to the music display. Once you adjust the volume you will see the different levels you set. Ex. Transom 15 Cockpit 5 Bow 5. As you turn it up it will keep the volume levels separated at that same level until the power is turned off.

The head unit can be super sensitive while going through these steps. It has taken more practice than should be required, but I can do it fairly quickly now.

I know this probably doesn’t make much sense. Good luck.

Nice explanation KYB. We do the same except with two zones. (tower and cockpit). Our third zone (cuddy cabin) has a separate volume control installed for quick access by kids.

Get a windlass. I have lots of options, But When I build my next boat, it will have windlass. If you keep it on a lift, get the mooring cover. Well worth it

Agree on the mooring cover. Plus, if you can, get a dock box to put cover in while boating.
