Fuel filling issue
Hello. I have a 2003 263 with a Volvo Penta 8.1 gi. Ever since I bought the boat a year ago I have been having problems filling fuel. The vent doesn’t work properly. I took the hose off the through hull fitting and checked the through hull fitting and put a camera 3 feet down the hose. No obstructions found there. I’m wondering if there is valve on the tank that could be stuck. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey P81. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
We had the exact same issue on our 262. It’s a relatively easy fix. Find the chrome vent on the side of the hull (fairly close to the fuel fill) that allows air to escape while filling your tank up with petrol. There is a screen in it. Use something small like a pin and carefully clear the screen from whatever is blocking it. (Wax, mud daubers, spider webs, etc). You’ll be good to go after that.

Any pics of your 263?
Again welcome aboard mate!

Re: Fuel filling issue
Sadly the first thing I did was clean the screen. I took the hose off and checked the entire fitting with a borescope.

Did you clean both fittings? One is for the waste.
There is no fuel valve. It’s a very simple system. A fuel sender is under the carpeted panel under the rear bench seat. There is a fuel fill hose in plus one vent hose out to allow for filling and expansion.

Yes I cleaned the fitting. It must have an obstruction further down the hose.

Do you fill in the water or on a trailer?

Re: Fuel filling issue
Did you check that the filler hose doesn’t have a sag in it where it runs horizontally to the tank?

No I haven’t checked that yet. Need to remove the Potti Potti to get access to that end of the tank. I will check that.
