Welcome Hit/Pat from lower Alabama, LA as we call it. Nice find! After you get settled in here we'll maybe talk about a lobster/shrimp swapping program!

Congratulations and welcome! I love that boat. I also love the interior/dash layout of all the 2002's. IMO some the nicest design elements of some of the older boats from Cobalt. Their build team was certainly beginning to peak at this point, all builds were really strong.

I've attached the prop chart for you... although I don't see anything specifically listed for you... I'll keep digging.

I think you're right... but can't confirm... which annoys me.

You can always call them. I forget his name, but he's extremely helpful and was on the design team during those years. I want to say Mike, or Bill...

Here's the Prop list too. Man am I off today. 9/11 too. You win again Monday.

I really Appreciate all the replies . I have it scheduled to be winterized by the end of the month. I'm going to have them change the plugs in the spring. I'm also wondering if I should replace the spark arrestor? Unfortunately I don't know a lot about the marine side of the 8.1 .. should I replace the stock one with a K&N? I have put some hours on the boat now and can tell you I LOVE IT!!!! It couldn't be more perfect for what my family. Again thanks for all the responses.

No don't replace it. I looked into it but you have a sensor that plugs into that and the k&n doesn't have it. Just clean it. You get no restriction from that arrestor. You won't anything. Plugs on that engine in that boat should be super easy.

Good read and get the impeller changed and outdrives done if not recent.. I do mine yearly..

I've tried k&n filters as opposed to the standard flame aresster.. No difference in performance
But it does cancel out the whistle the iac port makes on most 8.1. 2600 rpm to 3300 rpm

Ha! I'm referring to the IAC under the flame arrester.

If you pull off your flame arrester and look in toward the right you will notice they use a small piece of foam to dampen the air that travels along side the IAC (idle air control)
. Its actually called a IAC Muffler..it may be missing or shrunken.

Some do it and some done but its usually around "steady" cruise of 2500 to 3000 rpm. Ive replace the foam and it helps. and when testing the K&N filter it eliminated the high pitch whistle.

Its considered a normal condition if any of you experience it..

Now ive got that "whistle while you work in my head" and Disney channel is on

HITTHEGAS wrote: Wed Sep 06, 2017 9:44 pm Hello everyone,
I'm new here and would like to introduce myself.
My name is Pat and I live in Maine (Central)
I just picked up what I think to be a unique and rare optioned 2002 227.. I say rare because it has the big 8.1 , captains call, trim tabs ,deluxe paint etc.. I'm pretty sure when they had this boat custom ordered for them price wasn't a concern. I have only seen a few of these and none with this engine option. I'm hoping to find out if others are having hard time finding OEM parts for the older Cobalts. I have a couple interior pieces that I would like to replace and order a Bimini too. I have talked to a dealer about ordering the Faux interior wood inserts and they tell me that you can't get anything from cobalt that is older than 7 yrs. Does anyone know this to be true? Or is there someplace that sells or reproduce older Cobalt interior? I did find places that sell biminis but there are other things I would like to replace. I appreciate any input and if anyone has seen or owned one like this please let me know. Pat
Regarding your Faux wood inserts, mine are sun faded and I'm looking into water transfer printing, I read on a boat forum, cant remember which one, a while back about a guy sending his panels out to be basically re-wrapped, choices of finish are many, I think he did the carbon fiber but their are a lot of wood grain options, https://www.rahoffer.com/woodgrain-patterns/ - quick google result
I know the firearm guys are big into this
Impeller is important along with gimbal,(lower unit),service, as mentioned earlier

By the way-Nice Boat
