But this is what they use in there big hp engines. So what does that say?
Look at the box tucked away in the right corner.

.
Hmmmm, I'm confused....but that can happen easily.

Kendall motor oil is being used by Mercury Marine in their big HP engines? That's the only box I see in the picture that is readable.

What am I missing here bbp?

...and are those pistons out of a merc big block?

Yep that's the oil you see there.

Is that your brother's place of work?

Btw, what are his thoughts about Merc oil as a tech?

I used the merc oil. No issues. I would use it again if I had one. I was just very surprised to see Kendall under the bench. That was the high performance line. Then we went to the normal factory and that's where he works. They both are really cool to see. If you want to see more pictures I can email you. I would love to go to work there everyday and play with big hp. There research and testing facility is at where I boat and Bfun boat. It's right by the restaurants we go to. The factories are 40 minutes away.

Ahhh...

So the Kendall just happened to be laying there. Kinda like circumstantial evidence.

Any proof that kendall is used in Merc's R&D program; rebuild program; servicing program; warranty program; higher HP test run programs, etc...?

I have not uncovered anything in my research about Kendall and Merc development.

Oh I'm sure you wont find it anywhere. I know nothing other than it's there. It was at the end of the tour. Next time I go I'll be looking closer. I saw a few other things. Very interesting. It was so cool to see. I was surprised they let me take pictures In that building. At the factory I got like two pictures in and a employee asked me not to. Of course I didn't take anymore after that. Being a motor head that building is a toy shop.

...My gosh are those engines sexy, BBp! Love the supercharger sittin' up there on it's throne. ...and the headers look like something out of the movie "Alien".

Great opportunity for ya. And very cool your brother has an "in" so to speak.

Yes, I think it's just coincidence with the Kendall case being there. It is funny to see that though.

Have you posted any of these Merc Racing engines here before. You should start a thread if not. They sure get your heart poundin' don't they! 8-)

Man it would be great to have the ear of some of those within that Merc racing factory to ask questions about oil types & additives.

I take it you did not have any "oil" discussions, BBP, with all those HP distractions. Plus, I'm guessing many of those engines have dry sumps.

No the guys building most of them were not there. I got to talk to the guy that paints them and the accessories that go on them. He was really cool and very proud of a pair of engines he did in a cigarette boat. It had twin Mercedes engines and special chrome paint that was thousands of dollars a qt he said. But it sure shined like chrome he said. He still had some left. The superchargers and the engine covers were all painted by him. It was really cool.

.
Decided to go for the Mobil 1 full synthetic 15w-50.

The $22 price for 5 quarts is just too good to pass up. $44 for a complete oil change.
Easy to pick up at any Walmart.

Impeccable reputation for being the best oil around.

Not the perfect owner's manual requirement of semi synthetic Merc $35 25w-40 --but I think it wil do just fine as a balance between Merc engine oil perfection--availability--and price.

Also cleaned the engine with a toothbrush. She's spotless.
