R5 Windlass Anchor

Post by Snowman73 »

Anyone know what anchor weight and brand Cobalt uses for a 2019 R5 windlass? We won’t talk about why Cobalt wouldn’t use the chain eye and a chain link to hold the anchor chain from falling out. I suppose I should be to blame for not getting up from the helm to check how much anchor chain was left. Very frustrated. Maybe a warranty claim?

Oh no it was deeper then the chain. Mark the spot, send a diver down.

Marked the spot. Can’t find a diver. Only 30ft. Maybe I should post an ad on Facebook.

There has to be divers around that area.
So is there only 50 ft of chain?
Has to be some lake Michigan guys around.

You get the swim platform fixed yet?

I actually think it was less than 50’ of chain. Cobalt website I think says it comes with 80’. The depth where I was at was only 29’ and it hadn’t hit bottom yet.

Not yet. Part was ordered supposedly but I was told it wasn’t known when it was coming in.

Quick update for future reference if anyone else is to need a new windlass anchor. Cobalt mentions the R5 has a 13lb winch. I found one at Norestar and Lewmar. For my particular case it’s going to be warranted out. I highly suggest you check to make sure it is attached to the chain ring inside the bow chain locker.

From what I have been told it comes with 75’ of chain. And that sucks man! I remember you saying you were afraid to use it because it might get stuck.

Has anyone attached rope to their anchor chain? Wondering if the windlass will work with rope, or will it slip?

I believe if you look up the windlass model number you can check to see if you can use rope with it. The Lewmar V700 can use factory chain or rope but has certain specifications.

If you get a rope where should you put the other end?

So how did you get them to cover it?

I am not impressed that for $5000 they dont guve you at least 150’ (should be 200’) of chain.

Yes that gives new meaning to the term “chain gang” as you and the fam lounge on the water with 200’ of chain. ;)
