High pressure fuel pump readings

Post by Dropout »

Volvo Penta 8.1 GXI
Pressure tested both low pressure fuel pump and high pressure fuel pump on both motors. Low pressure tested good on both motors, steady 10 psi. High pressure fuel pump on both motors is erratic between 30 - 40 psi. Are both high pressure fuel pumps bad? Do I need to look elsewhere for both pumps to be bad? See video of both motors.

Pretty common for paint chips plugging then up. Have you watched the vids on that yet? What issue are you chasing

I know about the paint chips but did not see any evidence of it. I'm trying to chase down the rough idle that makes my motor shake really bad. As seen in the video its being caused by the erratic fuel pressure, I believe. Other than the rough idle, the motors never stall and run good, and also reaching max rpm.

Have you pulled a vacuum reading on them?

I think he means a vacuum trading on the engines not the fuel pump. Put a vacuum Guage on the engines and watch it.
Odd that both engines are Identical in the fuel pressure readings. Take a vid of the engines shaking. I was trying to watch it in the fuel pump vids before you days anything just to compare it to mine but I couldn't watch and listen at the same time. Also do a vid of the exhaust.

This part in this located on the fuel rail on the 8.1. What is it called?

Fyi, the fuel pressure regulator is located on the fuel pump assembly.

Thanks. So that means I have two of them? The second one being the one on the fuel pump assembly.
