Cobalt “special” on sc 23

Post by Chrispval »

Did anyone else notice that on the cobalt website, they advertise the 23sc on special, with a discount applied of 25 percent? I wonder how much more they will take off at dealer, or if thats it. I almost bought a new R5 and I felt like I was getting a good deal at 28 percent off.
Anyone have any speeds to post. I am wondering which SC is the fastest and what engine package to power it.
No mercury racing options. Will cobalt let you order one with no power? And add your own choice of outboard(s)

I have a 25sc with a Mercury Verado Pro 250. With only me in it, it runs 55mph. Love the boat and the motor is probably the quietest on the lake. Not sure what the 23 will do. I was a little concerned at first with a 250 as I bought the boat from a dealer on the coast without a test ride, but I have been very happy with the performance. 5 people In the boat and it pulls a skier up with no problems.

Hey PW1. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Any pics of your 25SC? Those OB motors are quiet these days.

Feel free to start an intro thread with pics only if you have the time.

Again welcome aboard mate!

My guess with the next generation of R series having an outboard option the SC lineup will go away. Maybe that is why they are heavily discounted??

As far as I know the 23SC has always been offered and sold with a Nationally advertised price referred to on the cobalt site as a “special”. My dealer confirmed when I placed my order.

A big difference between the R3 and the 23sc configuration is the available head and bow boarding ladder. Important to some like my wife but not others. I assume the upcoming R4 will keep the R3 layout without the head.

The R6 looks lovely (although I tend to prefer the more swoopy silhouettes of the current lineup) and assuming similar price for the future outboard version, it’s substantially more expensive than the 25SC according to the online configurator.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum after coming across this "special" last night. I was very surprised with the pricing as it fits my budget, which I wasn't expecting from a Cobalt and now seriously considering ordering one.

I had cancelled an order on a 23ft from another manufacturer, during the start of the COVID outbreak (order placed before), to see how it all played out and may now be ready to move forward. Might have been a blessing, as I now think this a better boat for a similar price.

This forever "special" approach surprises me, particularly as the entry level pricing on the 23SC is just so drastically below the entry level on the 25SC, which brings the question - Other than the obvious bigger engine and more fiberglass, what really makes up the big leap in cost from the 23SC "special" pricing to the 25SC full pricing and what could Cobalt's incentive be?

I'm not in the position to bridge that gap, but just curious to know the difference. My local dealer has a 25SC on the floor, which I have seen a few times before and would absolutely die for, but always thought it and Cobalt to be out of the range, but this 23SC "special" pricing gives a decent option, but would be good to know whats being sacrificed in the smaller model.

Appreciate any and all comments. Thanks in advance.

Have your dealer price out both, you may be surprised. We just ordered a CS23 which is also on "special" and it seems to me other people are getting the same discount on larger boats and these are just a marketing gimmick with a low up front price that is largely no haggle. It did work with us because I would not normally think a dealer margin would be that large or would/could go down 25% or more on a boat. I just happened by the Cobalt website one day looking to see what past used models would replace our old 97 220. After I seen the pricing and build a model we figured why by a used 10 year old boat albeit larger when we could buy new for not much more. I also figured this was like GM on pickups trying to clean out aging stock and you better act fast to get what you want. Suckered us in hook, line, and sinker - I guess there are worse things

I bought a brand new 2020 23SC at the Daytona Beach boat show in January 2020 from Jacksonville marine. I paid $78,434 (less tax). The "sale" price on the Cobalt website for the exact same boat is $76,799. That is $1635 less using the website. However, the boat I bought came with a Loadmaster trailer model TA102BT 20-23 52. So $1635 bucks for a trailer is not too bad.
My boat came with the following options: Merc 250 Verado, Premium bimini, Mooring cover, Premium sound, Sea grass flooring, Head, porta pot with pump out. The website lists the cost of each option and it adds up to $9367.
The website lists a "stripped" "sale" price for a 23SC at $69,867. I doubt anyone would order a "stripped" 23SC. I had Jacksonville marine add two more options before I took delivery, Satellite XM and Transom shower package including Bow ($1251 total, No installation fee was charged). The boat was delivered, included a full tank of gas, they detailed it and did not charge me a penny. It is a great boat, gets 3.5 MPG at 4000 RPM doing 38 MPH. At WOT it gets 2.3 MPG at 5550 RPM doing 49 MPH.
